staycation with lyme bay holidays

The UK might be enjoying stunning Springtime weather at the moment, but that’s not the only things it’s been enjoying over the last 12 months, because after decades of falling prices for airline tickets and increased demand for overseas travel, more and more of us are taking the old-fashioned route and deciding instead to take our holidays within the UK.

Of course, we say ‘old fashioned’, but it wasn’t so long ago that everybody holidayed within the UK, enjoying the splendid variety and quality of Britain’s holiday destinations.

It’s a shift that’s been noted by businesses around the country which have seen significant bumps in domestic holiday revenue in 2017 and more than 75% of people say that they were planning on taking a holiday within the UK.

For those that holiday in the UK, the reasons are self-evident, but if you haven’t taken a holiday within your home nation as an adult yet, well, you’re missing out. Every year we welcome tens of thousands of people to our holiday cottages in Dorset and Devon, but what’s bringing them to our sunny spot of this beautiful nation? Here are a few huge reasons.

We’ve got some of the best beaches

Whisper it quietly, but if you like beach holidays, you’ve been looking in the long place. That’s right, because the UK has some of the best beaches in the world, with a little something for everyone.

Whether it’s luscious, sun-bleached golden sands or dramatic, craggy rock beaches, the UK is home to all of them. Here in Dorset, we have dozens of gorgeous beaches, including the wonderful Lulworth Cove and Weymouth Beach, winner of the 2017 Travellers Choice award for beaches.

Britain is cheaper than ever

Without getting into politics, there’s been a real shift in the value of the pound over the last 12 or so months which has made the cost of converting your money to currencies like the Euro significantly more expensive than it once was.

In turn, that drives up the cost of everything from car hire to meals out, making the short hop across to Europe feel a fair whack more expensive than it once was.

We can bring our dogs

If you’re a dog lover, you’ll know there’s nothing more stressful than the idea of your beloved pooch struggling to adapt to a kennel environment or waiting by the door for you to return whilst you’re away.

It’s a huge reason why our holiday cottages for couples see so many guests bringing their dog along for the trip, enjoying all the dog-friendly pubs, bars, restaurants, attractions and national parks that this great country has to offer.

Britain is beautiful

We might not notice it as we make our way through our day-to-day lives, but this country is ours is one of astonishing natural beauty. From our incredibly preserved architectural history to vast imposing forests, sun-drenched grass valleys, astonishing coastline and more, we live in one of the most remarkable countries on the planet.

Taking the time to enjoy our country without the stresses of everyday life reveals a completely different nation to that which we typically experience, so what are you waiting for? See what Britain has to offer you.
