“The perfect retreat……chocolate box cottage…what you see with pictures is what you get plus more….”

Great facilities…ideal peaceful location…but close enough to all local attractions…. The cottage was immaculate on arrival…gardens are beautiful with lots of seating areas….. Would highly recommend….. Thank you upper cottage……

“Well what can I say, it was just the stereotypical chocolate box cottage, it was decorated and maintained very well and very clean throughout.”

Equipped with everything you needed. The WiFi is not strong by any means but does give you enough to get on the Web. It was good to have Sky TV for the odd evening in. The cottage is in very easy reach to Lyme Regis which is always a massive plus for us as well as easy travelling around Dorset and Devon. A brilliant cottage with walks from the door. Such a relaxing area its in being so quiet. The new carparking spot was great.. An easy pick to come here again.. Thanks.

“Superb cottage.”

Gardens were amazing kept finding extra areas. If you want a week of peace with outstanding walks this is the place for you. My dog loved it too. The linen smelt amazing all week. However I wouldn't recommend for physically challenged people as the stairs to bedroom were difficult. Will definitely use Sykes again. Thank you.

“We really enjoyed our stay at upper cottage.”

.our second time as,stayed last year too...everything we needed..nice peaceful setting out of the way.. .but stort drive to everything . .only downside was couldnt use our mobile anywhere in the dorset/devon area..comes up NO NETWORK .once back to the cottage we could only use watsasp to contact anyone .through the WiFi so still no phone calls could be made..otherwise could not find fault with anything at all..lovely cottage..lovely holiday!

Thank you for your kind review, it is always nice to hear from one of our several returning guests. We can't do much about the mobile reception in the area but have found the ee network to give decent reception most of the time. We use facetime or whatsapp through the wifi in the cottage We hope you come back again next year Property Owner

“Lovely location and very peaceful.”

The garden is beautiful and we found it secure for our dog. A bit of pruning near the front gate is needed! Great spot for walking and we saw buzzards, a kestrel and an owl. The lanes are narrow but you get used to it.

The large garden has a perimeter of walls and fences which we and all previous guests have found to be secure for our dogs. The country lanes are narrow in this beautiful hamlet and that's part of the charm, most people seem to manage as there is a turning space opposite. Property Owner

The property

A beautiful, detached Grade II listed thatched cottage quietly situated in a wonderful rural setting just two miles from the coast at Lyme Regis. Sympathetically refurbished and modernised, Upper Cottage has preserved its 18th century character and charm retaining many original features including a hearth and exposed stone walls in the lounge. However, the cottage has been brought up to date with a stunning modern bathroom, a light and spacious kitchen with stylish appliances and heating throughout provided by radiators and a wood-burner. With westerly views over the countryside from most rooms, the cottage provides stylish and elegant accommodation for couples or families. The property's sunny garden has two seating areas, both offering lovely countryside views. This is an ideal retreat for ramblers with stunning countryside on the doorstep, the local area is criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways and a nearby footpath leads to an attractive riverside walk to Lyme Regis town and seafront in around forty minutes. The local pub serving good food, the post office store and the village children's playground are all around a twenty minute walk away. This delightful cottage makes a perfect base to enjoy all that this picturesque and popular stretch of the Jurassic coast has to offer. Please note: In keeping with the age and style of the cottage the doorways are quite low and there are internal steps. This property may not suit the very young or infirm. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village of Uplyme, on the borders of Devon and Dorset, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, criss-crossed by bridleways and footpaths including the East Devon Way, and providing perfect country walks and superb views. The area was chosen by TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall for his River Cottage HQ at Park Farm, where you can treat yourself to a great meal. Just a short drive takes you to the stunning Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis. This delightful historic seaside town boasts a maze of narrow streets, with an interesting array of shops and cafes, whilst the sandy beach lends itself to great bathing and watersports, and the bustling little harbour offers regular fishing trips, or try your hand at fossil hunting.
