The property

Bonhays is a secluded holiday retreat in the in the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum set in the West Dorset hills. The village has a rich history as a pilgrimage site and the area is ideal for walkers as it is criss-crossed by footpaths and bridleways to the surrounding forest, farmland and beaches. The famous fossil beach at Charmouth is less than 10 minutes away by car and Lyme Regis is within 5 miles. The accommodation includes an attractive stable conversion (Bonhays House) sleeping up to eleven as well as two smaller cottages for up to four guests each. The properties are not booked separately, so each group enjoys the privacy of having the place to themselves. With an indoor swimming pool and wide open spaces, Bonhays is ideal for larger groups of friends or family looking to holiday together in a tranquil setting near the coast. The main house offers a conservatory dining area where everyone can eat together if they wish, and the two smaller cottages include kitchens and dining facilities for those who may prefer some privacy. In total, the accommodation comfortably sleeps up to nineteen, with a cot available for children under 2. Bonhays has been promoting a more innovative ecological approach for over a decade, with a bird-friendly and non-polluting willow bed waste water system, straw bale construction and other unique features. WHITCHURCH CANONICORUM

Bridport 5.4 miles.

Referred to as the capital of the Marshwood Vale, Whitchurch Canonicorum is an attractive mix of farms and cottages. Whitchurch Canonicorum is where you can find the very ancient church of St. Candida and the Holy Cross. It is unique in being the only parish church in England to contain the remains of an ancient saint. There is a well nearby, also named after the Saint, which is also rumoured to have similar healing properties. The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns.
