There are stacks of vibrant events happening in and around Lyme Regis throughout the year. Here are some of the 2017 highlights for your calendar:

1 JANUARY

The Lyme Lunge & the Grand Duck Race
New Year's Day festivities kick off at midday with a famous duck race on the River Lym. Once you've cheered the winning ducks over the finish line don your fancy dress for the Lyme Lunge, an invigorating saltwater dip at Cobb Beach. Even if you don't brave the swim you'll have a cracking time watching outrageously dressed participants take the plunge in aid of charity.

14 - 16 APRIL

The Lyme Bay Beer Festival
Blitz the winter blues with live entertainment, local food and a huge range of craft beers from the region's microbreweries. From the stunning venue of the Marine Theatre you can take in the sea views, sample the special beers and ciders, and spin into spring at a fundraising disco.

Easter Bonnet Parade
Don your own bonnet or simply watch Easter Sunday's spectacular bonnet parade from the seafront pavilions.

28 - 30 APRIL

Lyme Regis Fossil Festival
In a destination renowned for fossils, it's a little wonder that the people of Lyme Regis put aside a weekend each year to celebrate the area's prehistoric wonders. The whole family can enjoy fascinating talks and explore the past with a huge range of hands-on activities along the seafront. Most events are free but you need to book tickets at Lyme Regis TIC.

26 - 29 MAY

Lyme Regis Jazz and Blues Weekend
It doesn't matter whether or not the sun shines on the May Bnk Holiday weekend, it's still worth booking a trip to the seaside for this toe-tapping jazz festival. Book your accommodation early, as it's one of the busiest weekends of the year.

17 JUNE

Guitars On The Beach
The annual record-breaking bid returns again, drawing thousands of keen guitarists of all ages and abilities to Lyme's sandy beach. Traditionally held in September, for 2017 the organisers have moved the event to June in order to make the most of daylight hours - and hopefully avoid a repeat of the weather conditions suffered in 2016!

25 JUNE

Coast-to-Coast Motorcycle Run
Get to Gun Cliff early to check out the line-up of vintage motorcycles, and meet the riders, before they Mayor waves them off on their annual run from Lyme Regis to Weston-super-Mare.

16 JULY

Summer Show and Country Fayre
Step straight into a scene from The Good Life at this traditional country fayre held on Uplyme Playing Field. Organised by the local horticultural society, the are plenty of events from cake competitions and dog shows to live music and steam-train rides.

1 JULY

Big Mix Festival
Music lovers roll up for this vibrant music festival in the iconic seafront theatre of Lyme Regis. Listen to the beats of young local artists and big-name headliners brought together by B-Sharp - a local not-for-profit music charity for young people. Alongside the live music you'll find family-friendly activities, skateboarding and a BMX park.

22 - 29 JULY

Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week
Brace yourself for a smorgasbord of events, activities and entertainment - from the bath tub race, tug of war and crab-fishing competition, to swimming challenges, Morris dancers, fireworks and live bands. There is never a dull moment in this week of fundraising in aid of saving lives at sea.

3 AUGUST

Red Arrows Red Letter Day
The Red Arrows have been luring crowds to Lyme Regis to watch their cracking aerobatic displays over the sea for more than 40 years. One of the busiest days in the town's calendar, the display marks the culmination of a jam-packed day of community events on the seafront.

5 - 13 AUGUST

Lyme Regis Carnival
Join in the revelry of the town's huge Regatta and Carnival week, which boasts an array of family entertainment including a torchlight procession, fireworks, live music by the sea, gig rowing, theatre performances and the grand carnival procession.

16 SEP - 1 OCT

Lyme Regis Arts Fest
Get to the heart of the local art scene and get in touch with your creative side via a series of exhibitions, workshops, art trails and events. Showcasing multi-media art forms and bring you face-to-face with local artists and makers, this celebration of the region's creative talent takes place in various venues throughout Lyme Regis.

4 NOVEMBER

Bonfire Night
Keep warm beside a blazing bonfire on the beach and watch a magical fireworks display over the harbour. You don't have to make it to the heart of the town to witness the spectacular pyrotechnics that can be seen from miles around.

2 DECEMBER

The Great Lyme Regis Pudding Race
Rally together a team fo six for one of the quirkiest events of the year. The people of Lyme Regis kick off the festive season and work up an appetite for Christmas by dressing up as Christmas puddings (among other things!) and racing along the promenade.

23 DECEMBER

Carols Around The Tree
Sing along with Lyme Regis Town Band at the annual carol concert around the tree in the lower part of Broad Street.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Fancy Dress Swim
Put on your festive fancy dress and head to Charmouth beach for a festive dip. Don't turn up late though - the plunge takes place at 11am and most of the swimmers are out by a minute past.
