The property

Dating back to the 1750s, Bridge Cottage is an impressive Grade 2 listed cottage located in the pretty East Devon village of Dalwood. Steeped in history, this 3 bedroomed cottage retains many original character features and period details which are complimented by the owner's personal touches throughout. Set within glorious countryside and with pretty cottage-style gardens, this is a wonderful pet-friendly property ideal for families or friends looking for a peaceful retreat yet within easy reach of the coast. This magnificent cottage is arranged over two floors and, in typical long house style, many of the rooms are interconnecting. From the parking area at the front of the cottage, you will enter to find a magnificent lounge with high vaulted beamed ceilings. Large windows flood the room with light, giving a wonderful outlook over the pretty cottage-style garden. A cosy wood-burning stove is the focal point of the room and is perfect for chilly evenings. The kitchen, in one of the oldest parts of the cottage, oozes charm with its mix of exposed timbers, slate flooring and an AGA yet with the convenience of modern appliances including an electric oven and hob, microwave and dishwasher to ease your stay. The adjoining dining room is another spacious room where mealtimes can be savoured - whether breakfast before your day out or a delicious evening meal. A smaller sitting room provides a quiet spot for relaxing with a good book. The first of the bedrooms, a king-size bedroom, which can be made up as a twin room, is located on the ground floor with an inglenook fireplace (though this wood-burner is not in use), and a little sun-room – perfect for that early cup of tea. A ‘secret’ staircase leads up to another king-size bedroom on the first floor. The third bedroom, a double with adjoining dressing area, is accessed via a separate staircase leading from the kitchen. Both first-floor bedrooms are serviced by a Jack and Jill style shower room, with a stylish wet room located on the ground floor. Outside, the garden is dotted with beautiful trees, shrubs and cottage-style planting with extensive lawns and patio seating areas, where alfresco dining can be enjoyed. A stream runs at the end of the garden adding the relaxing sound of running water while you sit and enjoy your evening drink. Located in the beautiful unspoilt village of Dalwood, the maze of bridleways, footpaths and narrow winding lanes will appeal to the keen walker, gentle ambler, and those with a love for the great outdoors. The village pub, The Tuckers Arms, is a 14th century classic country pub offering a friendly welcome served alongside locally sourced food and drinks. The village also has a small community-run shop, with a small coffee bar. Venturing further afield, the nearby towns of Honiton and Axminster both have weekly markets for those who prefer to cook and the nearby Millers Farm Shop in neighbouring Kilmington offers an array of local groceries, as well as having a tasty tea shop. Take a trip to nearby Burrow Farm Gardens where a leisurely stroll through its award-winning gardens is recommended. For popular days out, the nearby Jurassic Coast has a delightful mix of charming fishing villages and regency seaside towns. Nearby Lyme Regis with its family-friendly beach and famous Cobb Harbour, is a great day out. Explore the Lyme Regis Museum and learn about the area's rich fossil-hunting history before trying to find your own fossils on the beach. The popular fishing village of Beer is another great choice with its limestone cliffs and pretty beach, where it is easy to lose a few hours sitting in a deckchair watching the local fishermen hauling their catches ashore. Bridge Cottage is a property simply bursting with character. There are some provisos to be noted, namely the stairs, steps and low beams within, and that the gardens are not enclosed. But if you are seeking a country cottage in this beautiful part of Devon, Bridge Cottage is the perfect location to experience this and so much more.
