    “Lovely property.”

The pictures in the listing don’t do it justice. It’s a lot larger than expected. Quite quirky. Fabulous sea views. Nice seating area with a shelter which was ideal for shade and would also be good in light showers. Well stocked with everything needed. Especially in the kitchen. Nice welcome bag with some essentials. The property does have Wi-Fi. The listing suggested both it did and didn’t so probably needs updating. Good location. Short walk to the centre. A couple of small supermarkets nearby. Close to the Town Mill which is worth exploring. We didn’t appreciate how hilly Lyme is. My husband struggled to walk back as he’s injured his leg, but buses were regular and stopped nearby. Only slight negatives. We’d have liked more towels as one medium and one towel per person wasn’t ideal. Especially as we also needed hand towels for the en-suite and bathroom. As per other reviews many of the items in the kitchen could do with a wash. We put all the items we’d use in the dishwasher on arrival. The kitchen trays etc were also filthy as was the hidden drawer and oven gloves under the cooker. We washed the trays etc but left the gloves as we’d taken our own. The wall cupboards with plates and cups smelt, as mentioned in a previous review. We left the doors open to air but it didn’t help. We plumped up the cushions on the sofa and it was quite dirty under the cushions. Otherwise the property was clean. There were issues from the neighbouring property the first weekend. We wondered if the property was a rental, but fortunately the occupants were only there over the weekend. Key collection and drop off was easy and the office wasn’t far from the property. We’d be happy to stay again.

The property

Located in the centre of the coastal town of Lyme Regis, The Old Garage is an intriguing, two bedroom apartment offering wonderful views of the coastline and sea from the lounge and garden. Formerly a historic garage for a large house and housing one of Lyme Regis' first motor cars, the property's original character has been preserved. The modern and contemporary accommodation has everything desired for a wonderful seaside holiday. Arranged on one level, the property has been refurbished and furnished to a very high standard. The lounge is a great space with comfortable seating where you can sit back in front of the Smart TV or sit and take in the far-reaching coastal views. A fantastic feature of the apartment is the imposing, 4 metre (13 foot) sliding doors which close into the cavity, leaving the lounge opening completely onto the decked garden. The kitchen is bright, well equipped and a great social space with dining table within the centre of the home. The large decked garden area, which takes advantage of the views, is partially covered, ideal for dining 'alfresco'. Sleeping up to four guests, the property has two bedrooms – a kingsize bedroom with ensuite shower room, overlooking the garden and a twin bedroom. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over. Enjoying garage parking for one car, this is a perfect property for couples or small families looking for an excellent holiday home on this wonderful part of the World Heritage coastline. Lyme Regis town centre can be reached within minutes with an array of independent shops, eateries and attractions. The family friendly beach is the perfect spot for a swim or enjoying some of the water sports on offer, with boat trips available from the famous Cobb harbour. The towns museums showcase the areas association with fossil hunting or why not try to spot your own ammonite on the beaches. The South West Coastal Footpath offers visitors a scenic way to enjoy the coast and takes in sites including Golden Cap as well as the seaside villages of Charmouth, Branscombe and Beer. Other family days out include the donkey sanctuary near Sidmouth or hop upon the tram at Seaton for a ride to Colyton travelling alongside the River Axe estuary through two nature reserves and giving an unrivalled view of the abundant wading bird life. With so much to see and do, a holiday at the Old Garage will be one to remember. Please note: There is a drop of approximately 4ft from the decking garden down to a gravel area at the end of the garden. It is loosely rope fenced off but supervision will be required of younger children. A maximum of two dogs are accepted.
