However – overall, we were disappointed, as the property was clearly nowhere near as clean and as hygienic, nor maintained as well as it should have been.
The main bedroom carpet had not been vacuumed very well, as we collected considerable clumps of fluff. Some of the grout around the bathroom tiles was mouldy. The seal around the bathtub had deteriorated and had cracked in several places. The bathtub panel was cracked and had become detached from the wall. The cold-water tap was loose, and although not a serous problem highlights a lack of maintenance. There was a crack in the kitchen work surface, and although may seem innocuous, it could certainly harbour germs. Some of the light switches, especially in high-traffic areas were very grubby. There was some plastic food packaging under the table in the living room, which had presumably been dropped and left by the previous occupants - that said it could have been there for a while. Although not a serious issue but rather one of aesthetics, many of the walls within the property had black scuff marks.
Given what has been stated above, I am astonished to read several of the other reviews stating “clean” and “spotless”. I can only assume the cleaning standards have lowered since those comments were made.

However, we’re genuinely sorry to learn that aspects of your experience did not meet expectations. Cleanliness and maintenance are top priorities for us, and we regret that you encountered issues that detracted from your stay. With that said, there will naturally be some aspects to the house, which we cannot control as it is 300 years old, such as the bathtub which can move on the odd occasion. We would like to assure you that the property had recently undergone significant improvements, including a full exterior repaint, refurbished decking and woodwork, along with the furniture being steam cleaned- this is just to point out a few things that have happened. These efforts were made to ensure a high standard for our guests, and it’s disappointing to hear that this wasn’t reflected in your experience.
The composite marble work surface in the kitchen is fully sanitised and the correct solution there in the cupboard to do so.
We also want to note that we were not contacted during your stay regarding these concerns. Had we been made aware, we would have acted immediately to address them and improve your comfort.
