    “Lovely Spacious Cottage with nice view of cathedral and town.”

    We thoroughly enjoyed staying this quite spacious and bright cottage nad would no doubt be back sometime. Good size kitchen, sunny lounge, lovely fire place. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom good size and nice to have a toilet downstairs as well. A few things prevented it getting 5 stars (which is actually deserves) - - no welcome pack ( perhaps normal for this cottage but disappointing and not something i have encountered in cottages rented before) - heating issues initially, as no clear ...

Bathroom good size and nice to have a toilet downstairs as well. A few things prevented it getting 5 stars (which is actually deserves) - - no welcome pack ( perhaps normal for this cottage but disappointing and not something i have encountered in cottages rented before) - heating issues initially, as no clear instructions provided. Eventually found that a control unit next to the boiler in a cupboard in the kitchen that was not set correctly - changed that to manual and then the thermostat knob in the lounge could be used) - garbage instructions not clear - I am not the only one to find that as the garbage bins were completely full - shower thermostat tap does not work properly and the shower head is small and seen better days. Hot water temperature had to controlled via the boiler in the kitchen. - no basin plug bathroom - no oven gloves - no drying rack or other option for hanging washing (clothes pegs are however provided) Please note that the items above have been mentioned to bring this to the owner's attention as things for improvement and raise the bar to 5 stars. Our overall stay was super and we would certainly stay here again in the future.

The property

Barley Cottage is a delightful Edwardian cottage in the centre of the picturesque fishing village of Beer in Devon. Quietly tucked away on a pedestrian lane in the heart of Beer this delightful, three-bedroom cottage offers wonderful views from its elevated position. Close to the beach and all village amenities, this charming pet-friendly abode is perfectly situated for a traditional seaside holiday or restful coastal break at any time of the year. Step inside to find a comfortable open-plan living area with parquet flooring and a feature brick fireplace with a glowing woodburning stove. Enjoying views of the nearby church and the village this is an ideal room to retreat to after a day out at the coast. The adjoining kitchen is equipped with everything needed for preparing meals whether it’s a breakfast to set everyone up for the day ahead or bringing the group together for an evening meal around the dining table. Head upstairs and the three bedrooms are located on the first floor. With two double bedrooms and a smaller twin room, this is an ideal choice for couples or families alike. The family bathroom with bath and shower over is also located on this floor. Outside, there is a pedestrian path which runs along the front of these charming cottages and across the path, steps take you down to your enclosed garden. With a decked seating area and rope balustrading surround, this is a wonderful spot to sit with an evening drink watching the sun setting over the village. A short walk down Long Hill takes you to the village's main street and its delightful array of local artisan shops, pubs and a good selection of restaurants. On sunny days take a leisurely stroll down to the beach, a family-friendly shingle beach with its iconic limestone cliffs and a popular spot for swimming and water sports. Here you can soak up the sun, enjoy a bite to eat or sit and watch the fishing boats come and go. For those who enjoy walking, there are numerous coastal and countryside paths nearby including the Southwest Coast path which offers far-reaching coastal views along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast. For a welcome day out, head to neighbouring Lyme Regis, a popular destination renowned for its fossil heritage and iconic cobb wall and harbour. Barley Cottage is an attractive cottage in a picturesque seaside resort, a great choice to enjoy all that this area of outstanding natural beauty has to offer.

Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction. Beer is situated on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the village offers sloping streets lined with picturesque stone houses and cottages built on many different levels of the steep valley sides. There are a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in Beer. Beer is a unique Devon fishing village and a great place to stay.
