    “The booking with Sykes was simple although there was some overlap with Lyme Bay Hilidays which caused a little confusion just before arrival especially with regard to the car park permit.”

    The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable , good kitchen and tv and two toilets. We couldn’t find an outside area for the cottage apart from a bench on the private path of the terrace. However it is very quick into the village - steep hill access. There was a lovely Welcome Pack and basics and beds were comfortable. The ‘file’ to enable us to adjust heating was not very clear (general manuals rather than ‘idiot guide’ on thermostat and the shower was very hot and we couldn’t ...

The ‘file’ to enable us to adjust heating was not very clear (general manuals rather than ‘idiot guide’ on thermostat and the shower was very hot and we couldn’t make it cooler. It’s a difficult drag to the house from the car with the stuff on arrival as we struggled for a space near enough. However, we had a lovely break and will certainly be booking Barley Cottage again.

    I am sorry you didn’t use our lovely decking area at the front of the cottage. It is a slightly strange set up where it is to the left of the cottage. It is a fully decked area with dinning table and comfy chairs. We will update the welcome pack to make it clearer and also provide better instructions for heating and water. Barley Cottage is a delightful Edwardian cottage in the centre of the picturesque fishing village of Beer in Devon. Quietly tucked away on a pedestrian lane in the heart of Beer this delightful, three-bedroom cottage offers wonderful views from its elevated position. Close to the beach and all village amenities, this charming pet-friendly abode is perfectly situated for a traditional seaside holiday or restful coastal break at any time of the year. Step inside to find a comfortable open-plan living area with parquet flooring and a feature brick fireplace with a glowing woodburning stove. Enjoying views of the nearby church and the village this is an ideal room to retreat to after a day out at the coast. The adjoining kitchen is equipped with everything needed for preparing meals whether it’s a breakfast to set everyone up for the day ahead or bringing the group together for an evening meal around the dining table. A welcome pack for your arrival ensures a great start to your holiday and will include milk, tea and a selection of locally sourced produce and treats. Head upstairs and the three bedrooms are located on the first floor. With two double bedrooms and a smaller twin room, this is an ideal choice for couples or families alike. The family bathroom with bath and shower over is also located on this floor. Outside, there is a pedestrian path which runs along the front of these charming cottages and across the path, steps take you down to your enclosed garden. With a decked seating area and rope balustrading surround, this is a wonderful spot to sit with an evening drink watching the sun setting over the village. A short walk down Long Hill takes you to the village's main street and its delightful array of local artisan shops, pubs and a good selection of restaurants. On sunny days take a leisurely stroll down to the beach, a family-friendly shingle beach with its iconic limestone cliffs and a popular spot for swimming and water sports. Here you can soak up the sun, enjoy a bite to eat or sit and watch the fishing boats come and go. For those who enjoy walking, there are numerous coastal and countryside paths nearby including the Southwest Coast path which offers far-reaching coastal views along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast. For a welcome day out, head to neighbouring Lyme Regis, a popular destination renowned for its fossil heritage and iconic cobb wall and harbour. Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction. Beer is situated on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the village offers sloping streets lined with picturesque stone houses and cottages built on many different levels of the steep valley sides. There are a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in Beer, plus just outside the village is the popular Pecorama Gardens, which are perched on the hill overlooking Lyme Bay.
