“The apartment was ideal for an ageing couple and had everything we wanted or needed.”

Access was easy with being on the ground floor and Beer is a beautiful village in which to holiday, where you are warmly welcomed by the locals. For those who wish to explore its coastline it seems a paradise, but for us, it opened the door to all the attractions of East Devon and Dorset. Sea Haven was chosen by us on its description and photos on Sykes Cottages, and we could not have chosen a better base. Thank you.

Access was easy with being on the ground floor and Beer is a beautiful village in which to holiday, where you are warmly welcomed by the locals. For those who wish to explore its coastline it seems a paradise, but for us, it opened the door to all the attractions of East Devon and Dorset. Sea Haven was chosen by us on its description and photos on Sykes Cottages, and we could not have chosen a better base. Thank you.

“The location was perfect.”

The size was perfect. The cleanliness was perfect. The facilities were perfect too although fridge very low and only a small box freezer and no full length mirror,which could be on a wall somewhere.There was space for it in lounge or lobby . The bedroom was small with no bedside table on one side,there is no room and just a 4ft6ins bed. Our main and disappointing hang ups really ruined the holiday. The bed is so uncomfortable ,it needs a new firm mattress.These days people can’t sleep on any old thing that will do.We are paying to have a decent sleep. The second disturbing thing is that there are no lace/voile curtains up at any window so we had no privacy whatsoever and had to keep all curtains closed and live in the dark. The bedroom has two windows with a path directly outside it . The lounge had a window onto same path and a main window onto small car park and path. We couldn’t have daylight at all,because we had no privacy at all. I think the owners should think what it would be like if they stayed there. Privacy and daylight with voiles would be so much better and it really doesn’t cost much,neither does a new mattress or bed. Everyone sells good beds for reasonable money. You can’t expect to go on year after year without replacing the bed. It’s a shame because we enjoyed its location and we have been coming for Regatta week for 25 yrs or more.

It was disappointing to read that Sea Haven didn’t meet your holiday requirements. Whilst I am happy to accept a valid critique and act upon it on this occasion I would like to address some of the comments made in order that future guests are able to asses a true representation of the property. Fridge is a standard 128 L undercounter larder fridge. Not unusually sized. The 31L counter top freezer is an ample size for a weeks supply for two people. The feature mirror in the hall gives a good full length view. As stated in property narrative there is a standard double bed. Although not a bedside table either side of bed there is a bedside light on both sides and provision for book, phone and a few personal items. Mattresses are subject to personal preference. This is not any old bed, is only 3 years old and the mattress was chosen as it matches the one I personally sleep on. The property is ground floor and in the heart of the village. Being Regatta week it would have been exceptionally busy with all the wonderful Regatta activities only yards away. Footfall throughout the village would have been greatly increased both day and night. It is not unusual to close bedroom curtains for sleep and dressing even on upper floors. Myself ,family and friends have and do live at the property and never feel the need to close curtains during daylight. I believe the narrative and photos provided show a perfect representation of the property giving guests every opportunity to choose a property which serves their personal preferences. I feel this review is inaccurate and unfair and suggest property narratives are used to suit the individual holiday needs. Property Owner

“The main thing is having to park our car at the back of the Dolphin especially when throughout the 2 week stay other cars where parked right outside Sea Haven.”

The only thing fitting of net curtains at the front and side window would afford better privacy especially a nosey local looking in every time they passed the windows

I am disappointed that you had issues regarding parking. The description for Sea Haven clearly states that a permit is provided during your stay. There is good reason for this and I’m sorry that you didn’t talk to me regarding this upon your departure, giving me the opportunity to explain. NONE of the 8 properties within Beach Court have allocated parking. The driveway to which you refer is an access route to the rear of the building, accessing land owned by properties in Fore Street. The driveway should be kept clear at all times for the use of those with access. Regarding your privacy concerns, during our 20 years at Sea Haven this has never been raised as an issue. Sea Haven, a bright and spacious ground-floor apartment located only moments away from the beach. The picturesque fishing village of Beer in East Devon is where you will find your new abode, perfect for couples looking for a seaside break. Sea Haven is an ideal choice for exploring this stunning stretch of World Heritage Coastline between the popular seaside resorts of Lyme Regis and Sidmouth. Inside, the spacious, open-plan living area has personal touches from the owners, giving the apartment a welcoming feel. The electric, woodburning-effect stove is perfect for the chillier evenings spent relaxing on the sofa watching TV or a film. The adjoining kitchen is well-equipped with everything needed to rustle up meals with a coffee machine the perfect addition for that all-important start to the day. All on one level, the bedroom is a plush double with a stylish shower room perfect for freshening up when you wake. Step out the front door and find yourself just a stone's throw from the sheltered cove and shingle beach, a popular spot for swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. The bay still boasts a small fleet of working fishing boats so why not join one of the local mackerel fishing trips which run regularly or simply sit in at one of the beach cafes and watch the local fishermen with their traditional fishing boats bringing their catches ashore? Worthy of a visit is the Beer Quarry Caves, dating back more than 2,000 years and famous for its quarried stone that has been used in many historic buildings such as Exeter and St Paul's Cathedrals. The nearby seaside town of Seaton is a great place to visit; spend a day at its popular Wetlands Centre, made up of three nature reserves with nearly 4km of level trails and a boardwalk through beautiful marshland and reed beds alongside the River Axe estuary. Lyme Regis, renowned for fossil hunting and the iconic Cobb Harbour, is another favourite and well within reach for a memorable day out. Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction. Beer is situated on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the village offers sloping streets lined with picturesque stone houses and cottages built on many different levels of the steep valley sides. There are a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in Beer. Beer is a unique Devon fishing village and a great place to stay.
