“Great holiday cottage, clean tidy and with everything we needed.”

If we had stayed longer we would have missed the washing machine and tumble dryer - and the fencing in the garden our lab bounced over into next door so we couldn't let him out the back without a lead so I think that the fencing could be improved perhaps as it's rather low :-) Overall a pleasant stay and close to Lyme Regis and Charmouth which was what we wanted.

I was a little surprised to read your comments regarding the garden fencing, as we have recently invested in raising the height of the fence and would generally consider it secure for all but the most athletic dogs. That said, we appreciate you sharing your experience, as it’s always helpful to understand how the property performs in real-life use. In terms of the washing machine and tumble dryer, the cottage is compact and space is understandably limited. However, there are commercial-grade washing and drying facilities available all year round just a one-minute walk from the property, which many guests find very convenient during longer stays. Perfect location. You're not far from Lyme Regis, Seaton, Beer or Symondsbury at all! We went with our two children and enjoyed the stay very much! Very cosy accommodation clean and tidy. Welcome pack upon arrival which was much appreciated. Secure front garden and semi secure at the rear for your dogs. Will definitely return in the future and wouldn't hesitate recommending to others seeking a nice quiet location but with plenty to do if you wish.

“We had a great 2 weeks in Dorset, the weather was great and the area beautiful.”

Sadly I can’t say the same about the cottage/house. This was the worst equipped kitchen of any self catering cottage we have stayed in, ever, there were no oven proof dishes, only one small oven tray. There are items in the kitchen cupboards for baking but no receptacles to cook anything. The stuff in the cupboards is completely disorganised and some very old and worn it’s spread throughout all cupboards, not leaving any space for storing food. I expect to be able to cook decent meals in a SELF CATERING cottage. The bathrooms were clean but the non slip rubber mats are worn and perished. There were not any cleaning fluids in order to keep the toilets clean and hygienic. It would be useful to have a safety handle for climbing in and out of the bath, some one had clearly used the towel rail and it was loose. The sofa in the lounge is not comfortable, it’s like sitting on a cushion on a hard bench. There is a curled up scatter rug in the middle of the lounge carpet, a clear trip hazard. The cottage is advertised as having a washer, this is an item I particularly look for when we are staying more than a week, there isn’t one. The washing facilities are in a communal laundry, it took us a while to find that it is a small room attached to the back of a another cottage, with no signs to tell us where it is. When we eventually found it, the laundry floor was flooded and the washing machines were stood in the water, we mopped the water up before using the washing machines. It would also have been useful to know that £1 coins are required to use the machines. None of this information can be found in the house folders. One thing that was in the folder was instructions on how to turn the outside light on and off with a special switch, sadly the switch has been changed and the outside light is on permanently. Apparently this has been the case for at least the last 3 months, the lady next door asked us to turn it off and showed us the special switch in her house and I explained that this was no longer the case in 44. The property is described as dog friendly but perhaps I should point out that it is not dog safe! The front garden which is very small is enclosed safely but the back garden is not, the fences between the houses are not suitable they are either low or none existent. Our dog could wonder into the next gardens especially when a feral cat came to visit and she ran after it. After having had a dog killed on a road after it escaped from a previous holiday cottage that also was not dog safe as advertised, I found this very worrying. The back garden has 3 flights of uneven stone steps with NO safety handrails, it certainly was unsafe for myself who has several joint replacements to get up and down them. Altogether an unsatisfactory experience.

I'm very sorry that you were disappointed with the cottage. I have made a number of improvement following your feedback. I am installing a new safety handrail for the steps up to the rear garden and improving the trelliswork to increase dog security. Unfortunately there is no washing machine in the property and has never been described as having one. The missing switch was due to an error introduced during a previous 'electrician' visit. We found it rather cold in the evenings even although it was May which was why I gave less than one hundred per cent rating for comfort. We have stayed at Fernhill Heights several times and we like the location with plenty of places to visit not too far away.

“It was cosy and warm when we arrived.”

However the water was turned off, which we have never known before. It took a while to find the stop cock. NOT under the sink, but behind the toilet in the bathroom. Lovely setting great for the dog as not on a main road. The kitchen IS small, but adequate for breakfast and snacks. Well equipped. We had a nice winter break. !ing walks and reading and catching up on some tv.

“THE COTTAGE WAS VERY COMFORTABLE AND CLEAN.”

SHOWER OVER THE BATH IN BEDROOM WAS A BIT AWKARD BECAUSE OF SHOWER CURTAIN BLOWING WHEN WE PUT EXTRACTOR FAN ON BUT WE MANAGED OK.PLENTY OF HOT WATER.PLENTY OF KITCHEN EQUIPMENT.TV WAS A BIT COMPLECATED TO GET CHANNELS BUT WORKED IT OUT IN THE END.WE COULDNT LET OUR SMALL DOG OUT INTO THE GARDEN AS SHE COULD GET OVER INTO THE NEXT DOOR SO WOULD BE GOOD TO HAVE SOMETHING TO STOP DOGS.BUT APART FROM THOSE LITTLE THINGS WE HAD A LOVELY TIME AND WOULD RECOMMEND AND COME BACK AGAIN.

“On arrival we found the Chalet was presented in a pleasant manner.”

On using the kitchen we found it to be very claustraphobic with a counter top freezer with a micro wave oven sitting on the top taking up a third of the already limited work space. On sitting down on the sofa we found dirty used tissues that had been stuffed down the side cushions. On unpacking our supplies we found that all the cupboards were full of equipment and seemed to be stocked for 8 to 10 people. The fridge did not have a bulb which made it awkward to see inside. The TV service kept switching off every so often. On going upstairs we found there was no rail on the right side, ( being 75 and 72 we found this a little worrying as to safety. We found dirty tissues ( which we have left ) under the head end of the bed. We could not open the shylight and it was very dirty. Whilst reading the welcome book it stated that NO VISITORS WERE ALLOWED. What we could not work out was why there was enough cutlery and glasses and crockery for 12 people. Having no dishwasher the used crockery etc had to be washed up .when used.. We have holidayed at Fernhill since 1990 ish and have stayed in different Chalets. The site seems to now be occupied by owners and is not in the best upkeep that it could be. Lyme Bay staff were again outstanding. There to help in all cases 10 out of 10. We have photos of all our concerns, we would stay at Fernhill again but not at No 44.

Hi, I am sorry if you didn’t enjoy your stay. All of the properties are different, each with their own layout and character. My property has a large second bathroom, resulting in a smaller kitchen than some. Please note a small misunderstanding - there is No message that says’ No guests allowed. Why else would I supply cutlery and crockery for six (not 10 or 12) people. The dirty tissues were unforgivable. I apologise for that. We have replaced the site management company recently and I hope that you will enjoy future stays, even if they are not at number 44 Property Owner

“We stayed here for 4 nights, 2 adults and 2 kids (8 & 6) and our dog.”

It's a lovely little cottage and was so clean and we were treated with a lovely welcome pack with tea coffee and biscuits etc which was such a nice touch. The kitchen has everything we needed including washing up liquid/ cleaning sprays etc. The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable with plenty of wardrobe/drawer space to store clothes etc. The only 2 things i would say that i would change about this property was, the living room only had one 2 seater sofa and 2 single wooden chairs, unlike the photos which show two 2 seater sofas and 2 wooden chairs. For a family of 4 we didn't feel one small 2 seater sofa was enough, especially as my husband is over 6 foot and took up practically the whole sofa. I'd probably swap the 2 wooden chairs for another 2 seater sofa to make it a bit more cosy. The second thing is that the listing states that the property had an 'enclosed garden'. Which it does have, but the fence at the top of the garden is only about 15cm tall, so when letting my dog out in the garden for the first time, I was quite surprised to look up and see him looking at me excitedly from the next door garden! Thankfully he has excellent recall so came straight back on command, but for anyone with young kids or dogs more than a few inches tall, there's not a lot to stop kids and dogs going over to the next door garden. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here, and found the 5 minute drive to charmouth beach really handy, also a 5 minute drive to Lyme Regis bitg both of which had plenty of parking.

I spoke to three owners who live on the site who informed me they all drink bottled water because of the variable quality, yet visitors are not given any information. You have a duty of care to all of your clients and you should confirm if the supply is safe to drink at all times and ensure that all visitors are fully informed that the water is safe to drink without the need to boil it. The criticism is not directed to the owner, but your selves.

The water is certified by the local council and Wessex Water to be completely safe and, as with all private water systems, tested regularly. There had been some water quality problems in the past, but these were resolved a long time ago. During those problematic times, the house was removed from the letting market to ensure the safety of visitors. Property Owner

Useful having recycling bins on-site and having 2 bathrooms was very convenient. Parking close to the property appeared to be ‘first come first served’ but plenty of space a short walk towards the hotel. A good and comfortable base for touring the Jurassic Coast.

“We had a lovely stay at the cottage!”

It was an ideal location for exploring charmouth and Lyme regis and a really nice house. It was very clean, felt much bigger than it was, and worked really well for a couple with small baby. Although we had a really good stay, there were a few things we wanted to mention that weren't ideal: - the house was advertised as having internet, but we couldn't find anything to indicate there was internet. - there were no oven gloves - there was only one tea towel although we were there for a week Other than that, it was great and one of the nicest places we've stayed.

“The house was well equipped and in a really nice location.”

It was helpful that the Lyme Bay Holidays caretaker could come promptly to sort out the problem that we had with the taps. It would have been much better if the cleaner or someone local could have turned on the immersion heater the day before we arrived or even the morning that day. It wasn't so nice to arrive to no hot water and then it was quite difficult to find the instructions and figure out how to turn on the switch in the cupboard. We had a 5 hour drive with lots of traffic, so were quite tired and just wanted a hot shower. There seems to be some issue with the plumbing that the tap upstairs on the shower / bath jammed up, so we couldn't get anything out of the tap. And then when we used the hot water tap downstairs for washing up, the water came in fits and starts, suddenly spraying out and then stopping for a bit. This was fairly consistent through the 4 days we were there. The downstairs shower was fine to use with enough pressure, once the immersion heater had been turned on over night for there to be enough water. I think if there were some more clear instructions in the guest book about the hot water that would be better. Overall we had a nice holiday, the terrace was nice, and the kitchen was well furnished.
