    “Being an older house the garden door was very difficult to open ,once opened we left it unlocked as there was an inner door that we could lock and the garden was enclosed.”

The property

Heron Cottage, an attractive two-bedroom cottage with many character features, situated in the heart of the Colyton in East Devon. Sleeping up to four guests, this pet-friendly cottage is ideal for those wishing to enjoy this beautiful part of the county, with its abundance of walks and close proximity to the coast and popular beaches. Located in a quiet and pretty street, you will enter to find a spacious open-plan living area with feature beams, exposed stonework and a woodburning stove, ideal for those cooler evenings. The adjoining kitchen is equipped with everything needed for a self-catered holiday and overlooks the rear garden. A sunroom at the rear of the cottage is the perfect spot for enjoying your morning cup of tea while you plan your activities for the day ahead. Upstairs, the bedrooms are arranged over two floors. On the first-floor there is a twin bedroom and the family shower room. The second flight of stairs takes you to a spacious double bedroom, set into the eaves and enjoying views over the countryside from the Velux window. The garden at the rear is gravelled with a table and chairs to cater for dining alfresco when the weather allows. Colyton itself is a town steeped in history with narrow streets and many old buildings with features of a bygone age. The town boasts a wonderful selection of traditional shops, an award-winning butchers and traditional bakery, alongside galleries, welcoming pubs, artisan eateries, and tea rooms. Take a tram ride alongside the River Axe to the seaside town of Seaton with its mile long beach, popular for water sports. For nature lovers, explore the beautiful marshlands and reed beds with over 4km of level trails and boardwalks and home to an abundance of wildlife. A short car journey will take you to the picturesque seaside town of Lyme Regis with its family-friendly beaches and famous Cobb harbour together with attractions such as the aquarium, and fossil museums where you can discover more about the extensive geological history of this well-known section of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The South West Coast Path rewards walkers with spectacular scenery and takes in pretty fishing villages such as Beer and Branscombe, with views along the coast as far as Portland on a clear day. Other popular days out include the Axe Valley Animal Park, a small and friendly zoo situated in the beautiful countryside of the Axe Valley, just outside Axminster. Heron Cottage is a delightful location for enjoying all of this and so much more in Devon. Please note: there is unallocated on street parking on the street although the road is quite narrow in places. A long stay car park is located within 100m of the cottage in Dolphin Street. Due to the character of the property, its internal staircases and different levels on the ground floor this cottage may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues. Situated in East Devon, Colyton is a small town with its roots dating back to 700 AD. Situated around three miles from Seaton and six miles from Axmouth, Colyton has many links to its past with numerous historical buildings, such as St Andrew’s Church, and its winding lanes with independent shops.
