“This was the most wonderful place to stay with our grown-up family.”

Plenty of room to park the cars that had conveyed us from three different parts of the country and the house was so roomy and comfortable. Would love to have tried the aga but as the weather was pretty hot we didn't think heating up the kitchen further was a great idea. There really was everything we needed in the kitchen and indeed throughout the house. Excellent selection of DVDs (although we were out so much we didn't actually watch any) and books (ditto). Huge garden with occasional visits ...

“A beautiful large house in a location with beautiful views!”

Super large garden and close to the village with all kinds of tasty restaurants. Somewhat dated, but that is also the charm of this house. Very clean and good beds. As a welcome gift, a bag with all kinds of goodies. If you have any questions, there is good telephone and email contact. This house is highly recommended and we will certainly return.

“Thankyou for letting us stay in what has obviously been your cherished family home.”

This is a beautiful light filled mid century property with lovely views of the sea and was perfect for our family of seven - grandparents children and grandchildren. The house takes you back to a time when everything was crafted to last with beautiful oak floors hand built wooden cupboards, a serving hatch from the kitchen to the living room, a snug room off the living room and a separate dining room big enough to get the family round and eat like civilised people instead of on your lap in front of the TV! The Turquoise and green baths and the sinks in two of the bedrooms are from another era but again utterly charming and totally practical! Please don't change the eclectic 50s period and older furniture - it's what gives it that homely loved feel instead of a bland holiday let. The beds were super comfy It was spotlessly clean The gardens were vast and our grandkids loved playing in and out of the hiding places! Luckily we had brought our own garden toys but perhaps a few in the property wouldn't go amiss in the future as perhaps a few children's books to go with the indoor games? There is everything you need in the kitchen to cook and serve a large family. Perfect! Sorry I chipped the coffee pot on the tap but bought a replacement! We had a problem with the serving hatch coming off on the first day but credit to sykes they organised for a carpenter to come round the next day to sort

“Excellent house.”

Everything was to such a high standard. Nice to have enough crockery that if the dishwasher was full, still enough glasses, mugs/plates etc for the next meal. Good bedroom layouts. We had our grown up ‘children’ with us, so having the 2 twin rooms was great. Beds comfortable, house was extremely clean. I have never used an aga before, had I had time to look at some YouTube tutorials i would’ve liked to have used it, but even though the instructions were there, perhaps a simple ‘idiots(!)’ guide would be useful! Hot water all the time a rarity in holiday homes - thanks for that extra bonus! Showers reliably worked Made use of the table and chairs to the front patio. We ate there at every meal. Beautiful garden. Lawn was freshly cut and looked stunning Don’t usually go to the same place twice, but this house suits our family and the location is spot on for seaton and beer without need for the car so will definitely make another booking.

“The house and gardens were as expected - spacious and lots of rooms and excellent gardens with easy access to the shoreline and lovely walks to Beer.”

We very much enjoyed our stay there. The only mishap was a lot of rubbish left over from the previous holiday which was left in the bin provided and that made it difficult to use fully - the bin collection did not coincide with our departure day so unfortunately the next let would have the same problem.

Only one minor niggle and that is that there is no sensor light as you approach the house in the dark after returning from going out. Would love to return in the summer and enjoy the garden more.

“Very spacious house on a superb location.”

Wonderful garden with a lot of wildlife. The home squirrel even crossed under our chair on the porch! Beautiful surroundings and adorable villages ( Beer ) within reach. The beach is a 5 minute walk away. The house is well equipped with appliances and all. Sadly, since we are a tall family, all the available beds are too short and too narrow. Both showers are poor to be honest. Taking a bath instead is not so environmental friendly nowadays. In the shower cabin in the en suite bathroom there is risk of burning on the hot water line. This didn't spoil our holiday by the way! We had two weeks of blue skies and a lot of sunshine.

“This was a lovely property in which our family of seven including three grandchildren enjoyed a fantastic stay in a beautiful part of Devon.”

Just two small points to mention : The shower over the bath had very weak water pressure which made it virtually unusable and there is a loose tile on the steps leading up to the front door. But everything can be forgiven when you are staying in a property such as this with its beautiful garden and and amazing sea views.

“The location of the property is great, and the sense of space and views are lovely.”

We had deer and pheasant in the garden most days which the children loved! The only real downside was that the master bed has a very soft, lumpy mattress, so much so that we left it unused after two nights. You can feel all the springs in it, and it offers no support for your back. Beside that the property is great, if a little dated which is as you’d expect from the photos. It’s also worth noting that the gas oven wasn’t great - we found the aga was much better for cooking (oven and hob). We’ve not used one before, but we found the gas cooker was hard to control the temperature on due to blocked burners etc. We would book again if we could have confirmation that the master bed had a new, firmer mattress.

“Westdale Edge is perfect for us as a family meeting up for an annual holiday/ The location is wonderful and the views are spectacular.”

There are a couple of silly niggles, such as the kitchen and its facilities. We are a big family and love cooking but that is the problem. It has an Aga, but we don't want to put an Ago on in the hot summer, the only other option is a basic gas stove. The owners have supplied many cooking trays but only two fit the cooker!!! So, all the ones in the drawer are too big for the small cooker. The kitchen is very old fashioned and very cramped for such a large house. We had three little boys wanting to sit at the island in the kitchen to eat their breakfast and one has to sit on the dustbin as there are only two stools!!! There are no real wine glasses. After the third time stating this, we found many sherry glasses but not nice wine glasses. So we bought six from Tesco's for £3!! Finally the door in the dinning room into the garden is still broken and needs to be operational considering the price for a week is nearly 2.5 thousand pounds. It would cost about £200 to fix it and £800 to replace, Come on sort it out. Also we don't want the £40 gift pack of Devon fudge and biscuits. Give us oil, balsamic vinegar. salt pepper milk and bread and maybe a bottle of wine.

Seaton is a seaside town in East Devon on the south coast. It faces onto Lyme Bay, to the west of the mouth of the River Axe with red cliffs to one side and white cliffs on the other. Axmouth and Beer are nearby. A sea wall provides access to the mostly shingle beach stretching for about a mile, and a small harbour. Seaton is on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the town offers a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs.
