Temple House

Disappointing that a problem with a shower could not be rectified within the holiday week (owner lives too far away).

Rather dated internally. Kitchen needs maintenance- broken oven door handle, broken bread board. No sharp knives. Limited kitchen tools compared with most. No non stick pans. No pack of tips for the property other than a mini white board with the WiFi code and suggesting you call 999 in an emergency. We’ve used Sykes several times but this one is not a return to. In fact the poorest in my experience. One saving grace is the beds everyone said were comfortable.

This is a well kept house with super amenities and so close to the Byes and Sidmouth town .

Location to other areas is great . My only criticism is that the double en-suite shower doors need fixing onto the track so that they close properly. The double gates were constantly blocked by others parking in front of them so manoeuvring to park - exit was difficult - not the owners fault at all - other inconsiderate drivers but a notice may be helpful .

Upstairs- exceptional Downstairs- Had it been wet would have been cramped for the 8 of us.

Delightful house, spacious, very quiet and in an ideal location.

The Byes are so close as is a nature reserve at the top of the cemetery. House requires some maintenance, and you will need: a towel for the kitchen, additional dishwasher tablets, (only 2 left) and tea towels. A tray would be helpful, otherwise all gadgets well provided and the house has a large, secure parking space.

We all had a lovely stay at Temple House, large well appointed accommodation and very clean upon arrival.

The kitchen is probably the best we have experienced with Sykes Cottages. There were 6 adults, one 2 year old and a dog in our party and we had lots of room inside and outside of the property with ample parking. Only minor gripe was lack of toilet rolls (had to buy our own) and more towels would have been useful. Would we stay here again...yes...excellent location for our needs.

Very comfortable, wonderfully positioned for riverside walk into town.

No noise at all considering it is only just off the street. A tray would be useful so all in all, perfect.

A lovely house, comfy firm beds, very well equipped, everything you need in the kitchen.

The utility room was great for storing wet coats, & drying off damp dogs! Plenty of space outside, especially if you want to sit outside on a nice day. Easy 15-20 minute stroll to the town via the Byes, perfect for the dogs. I imagine the lounge would be a bit of a squeeze for 8 adults, but with a TV in every room it wasn’t an issue for us. Previous reports mentioned dripping taps but these appear to have been fixed. The master bedroom on the top floor is excellent. We would definitely stay again.

Not quite a 5 Star property.

The issues ( not problems) are: lack of towels...poor quality plumbing...no clocks (!)...only one set of keys for a place that sleeps 8 ( madness!). The good far outweighs the bad, though I think 8 adults here would struggle - the living room is for 6, maximum IMO. LOCATION IS SUPERB....and yes, we would go back.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at Temple House.

With the weather definitely in our favour it provided a perfect base for visiting Seaton, Beer, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, The Donkey Sanctuary and of course Sidmouth town and beach ( Jacob's Ladder area ).The trip from Suffolk always seems a long way, these days, but when you arrive and find such a splendid accomodation, it makes any ardous journey quickly pale into insignificance. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy the Devon countryside and beaches.

Overall very good but there was some dust on the doors and inside the wardrobes which rubbed off onto our wedding clothes.

The lack of storage/shelves in bathrooms was disappointing and a nuisance. Some bathroom taps required strong hands to turn them off to stop drips.

Large, roomy property.

Has everything needed for a great holiday. Beds very comfortable, large kitchen with dining room. Kitchen has lots of utensils. Property well suited for exploring. The downsides are few. There is an on-going problem with bathroom taps as they have been mentioned before. They constantly drip and are very difficult to turn off. The shower door in ensuite kept coming off it's runner. The dining chairs are a bit rickety. However, these small negatives didn't take away the overall enjoyment of our stay and we would definitely go again.

The property was lovely.

Very clean and great facilities - the stroll into town along the river and the bus stop close by for those that didn’t want to walk was ideal. Two very minor niggles - that taps in all bathrooms were constantly flowing or dripping and the provision of a teapot would have been really handy

Lovely house within walking distance of the beach.

Excellent well fitted out kitchen. Lovely bedrooms with really comfortable beds. However, the lounge was quite small for a house for 8 people, although plenty of comfortable seating outside. Would highly recommend.

Lovely well finished property.

We enjoyed sitting outside in the garden, leaving the front door open whilst in the house - which is a rarity in this day and age! Loved the coloured lights in the kitchen and top bedroom/bathroom. Our dog loved going to the park on the way to the beach, which was 10/15 minute walk away. On the whole a very enjoyable week .

We had a lovely week at Temple House last week.

The house is spacious and the kitchen well equipped to cater for 8 people. It is well located to walk down into town and to the seafront, there is also a great walk down by the river through the park which is only a few minutes walk from the house. We would definitely like to stay again.

One of the beds had been slept in and not changed.

A lot of dog hair on the ground floor. The sink taps in the top room upstairs dripped and were very difficult to turn off. A shame as otherwise a nice house, which although a little out of town has good facilities.

We really enjoyed our stay at Temple House and have booked for next year.

Really well placed for last minute shopping and on the bus routes. Beautifully decorated and maintained. An extra key would be useful and a couple of the taps difficult to switch off completely, we have old hands but I would thoroughly recommend this house.

Entrance could do with a ramp to mke life easier for the disabled.

Lovely property and within 10-15 mins walk to town centre.

Lots of independent shops and lovely beach promenade. Good location to visit nearby villages of Beer, Seaton etc.

Delightful house, stylish and comfortable, with plenty of parking and ideally situated for a visit to a very lovely Sidmouth.

Plenty of kitchenware to make cooking for a large crowd easy, and a lovely dining area to sit and enjoy the company.

Only thing I would have said is shower mat in both showers, elderly people are more prone to slip.

Well equipped kitchen. Only thing is that the living room really only comfortably seats 6, fine for us, as there was 6 of us and a toddler.

We spent a week at Temple House over Christmas and really enjoyed our stay.

The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The house was comfortable, warm and welcoming after some windy, wet weather. We managed two coastal walks, swimming in the sea on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and a visit to some of the local pubs. Would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful property renovated to a high standard in a great location, walking distance from the seafront with ample parking.

Great outdoor space and variety of bedrooms. Kitchen dining room is a fantastic size for larger groups but sitting room is a little small for a larger group to all sit together. Had an issue with the electrics during our stay in bad weather, lost all power and had to isolate one RCD a sit appears the outside lights were causing the issue and Sykes couldn't get maintenance out, unfortunately the issue was unresolved during the remainder of our stay meaning we were left without lighting in the downstairs bathroom & lounge. Only other thing to note was we think it would be a good idea to have a railing on the edge of the patio as its a 3 foot drop to the parking area, we had 4 children in our group and when returning in the summer it would be great not to have to worry about them falling if we spent more time outside. We also didn't use the front door as it was a bit fiddly and awkward to close, this is where the key safe is kept so may be a slight issue to address there, not major as there is another entrance on the opposite side of the house. That's just minor feedback and recommendations and what is otherwise a fantastic property which we have already booked to return to in 2024 :)

Lovely home.

Everything you’d need for a holiday. Only suggestion I would make is to put blinds on the loft bedroom en suite for privacy and in the bedroom to keep out the morning sun. Might be nice to have bedside tables in the other bedrooms too. Somewhere for glasses and books to rest. Small details which didn’t spoil our holidays. Lovely location easy to walk into Sidmouth. Would rebook. Thank you.

Suggest that the top bathroom would benefit from a table or similar as there was nowhere to put wash kits The bathroom tap turned off but about 5 mins later started to run - either a washer problem or water pressure issue.

The kitchen is one of the best provisioned - loads of crockery and cutlery - perfect

The property was fantastic.

The beds were so comfortable. The property it's self was overall clean and well maintained. The kitchen equipment was great I have never stayed at a holiday cottage that had everything that you need. Great Property!

Enjoyed our stay at Temple House 2 families and the dogs.

Garden was lovely with outdoor seating would have sat out more if weather had been better. Need a blind in the double bedroom to save drawing the curtains. Will definitely book again x

Beautiful house ideally situated, 15 minute walk to the town and beach.

There were a few things lacking that would turn this into a five star stay. No parasol outside which is needed. No welcome pack which on enquiring with Sykes had been forgotten about. This contained the wi-fi password which they did send me in a message. Not enough towels for a house sleeping 8. Only 2 tea towels, no place mats or coasters. No full length mirror by a plug to do hair. Top floor bedroom very hot, need fans, the en suite bathroom has no storage/shelves for toiletries ect. Living room needs a coffee table as no where to put a drink. I would expect basic supplies of cleaning items along with tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread etc. Regarding cleanliness it wasn't high standard which I expected considering the cost to stay here. The beds were really comfortable with quality bedding and pillows. I would definitely stay again and would recommend. If the above issues are addressed it would be perfect.
