“Noise concern - the flat is the basement of a 4-bed house.”
Despite the listing’s assertions of extensive soundproofing, you can clearly hear the goings on upstairs. When we arrived, the house above was occupied, and noise could clearly be heard through the ceiling. The next renters upstairs appeared to have no children, and the noise level was then acceptable as we heard only footsteps.
The flat also backs onto the long-stay car park. In our case, one night a car alarm went off intermittently all night long.
Positives - the apartment was clean and comfortably equipped for 4. The shower is powerful with hot water on demand.
Lyme is very hilly, but the flat is situated close enough to town (less than 10 minutes' walk) and meant we were happy walking down and up to and from town multiple times a day.
A nice welcome pack (tea, coffee, biscuits, crackers, apple juice, dish cloth and a pint of milk) was provided. We appreciated the sink in the main bedroom, which helped free up the bathroom each morning and evening, though the light above the bedroom sink didn’t work unfortunately.
Outside there is only one wheelie bin and one recycling bin shared across both properties. The bins were full when we arrived.
Minor improvements suggested: a dustpan, more than one tea towel, a larger kitchen bin, an outside table, replacing one of the four outside chairs as it is broken, and replacing the bread knife as the handle is badly damaged.
The flat doesn’t get the evening sun, but fans in both bedrooms would help air circulation in hot weather. The poster in the flat said recycling was collected on a Monday. It needs updating as collection is on a Tuesday.
It’s not clear which of the five parking bays belong to the flat, but we always had a space.
