“Ivy Cottage is a slightly well worn home from home.”

It’s comfy, and very cozy if you’re there in the winter. It’s a quiet oasis but near to everything Lyme has to offer. I recommend it and will definitely be back.

“We have used Lyme Bay Holidays for over 15 years and the properties have always been well presented and very clean.”

Unfortunately, Ivy Cottage was simply not up to standard. It is dated, dirty and in desperate need of renovation. At this price point, it by far the worst we have stayed in and sadly, it has dented our faith and trust in Lyme Bay Holidays a little. We only booked a two night stop gap on our way to Cornwall, but had we been staying for a week I think we would have been in touch to make a complaint or even left early. The kitchen is unusable, the plumbing is inconsistent (we didn't want to bath or shower), there are damp patches and it smelt mouldy. There are a lack of mirrors and lighting, The garden is unkept and the furniture is ready for the skip! The owners clearly do not care. There was even dog poo in the garden. The house has so much potential, but n the current state, I don't think this house should be on your books. I would whole heartedly accepted compensation or a rebate if offered.

“The property was a bit dated and with some simple updates, maintenance and cleaning would be great.”

We had an issue with the washing machine whilst there, and with a family this was a major headache. The local laundrette is only open certain times, needs pound coins and you have to wait for the washing. The washing machine at the property is well past it's life expectancy but the owner tries to fix it, just buy a new one for the hassle. This was like a lot of things in the property, inc the back garden, which could be a lovely space if given some attention. The property needs a deep clean too, cobwebs everywhere, mold in the bathroom, cracked tiles, dirty oven etc. Unfortunately we will not be booking again which is a shame because the property could be lovely. We did get a small refund for the washing machine which was a nice offer, but had 5 different people dealing with this, Lyme Bay holidays have lost their personal touch so we won't be booking with them again either.

“We stayed in this lovely cottage in May.”

Booking was easy. On arrival there is no parking outside the house but there is an NCP car park just five minutes walk away. The car park costs £16 for 24 hours so it's probably sensible to unload and park elsewhere. A walk up the high street and turn right will take you to the quiet back street where the cottage is. It was a hot day so a relief to step into the cool cottage. The cottage was lovely, very comfortable, and practical. I was so pleased to receive a bag of goodies which most importantly contained tea and coffee, and milk in the fridge - I was desperate for a cuppa! The place was very clean, the beds very comfortable. We brought our dog who was very happy there. The small enclosed garden meant that she could be outside when she wanted and was safe. Very peaceful place too - which was important to us as our dog usually reacts at any strange noise. It was a very relaxing break and I would definitely stay there again. Oh, nearly forgot - it's just five minutes from the beach!

We were a bit concerned about the late check-in, but Lyme Bay Holidays looked after our bags while we waited, and after I enquired they confirmed the property was ready for us early and even ferried our bags to the cottage for us, for which we were really grateful. We will definitely return.

“Fantastic Location, we could not of wished for anything better.”

The Cottage was very clean, tidy, and comfortable, with plenty of TV channel's, games, and DVDs. we also received a welcome pack which was a really nice touch. Only downside was the plumbing, as there is an air bubble somewhere as the cold water tap screamed at us (startled us at first LOL), and this tap is very hard to turn to stop the dripping. Its also an old house, so it creeks, but its a very nice place to stay.

Cosy but spacious. Good sized, well tended gardens front and back. Ideal for a visit to Lyme Regis, walking routes and visits to other coastal beauty spots. Baffling heating system. Maintenance guy very quick and helpful.

We are prepared to put up with shortcomings in the quality of some of the facilities to stay in a 4 bed, quiet, cosy, dog friendly cottage in the centre of Lyme at an affordable price. We will go back there and would recommend it.

“We liked the cottage very much, but there were a number of “niggles” - the boiler repeatedly needed resetting, even after someone had come out.”

The light on the landing didn’t work, nor did one in the living room. The key to the window in the second bedroom was missing and as it was warm it would have been good to open the window. The shower also leaked into the kitchen (I think this has probably happened before). Finally the garden was rather overgrown and it wasn’t that inviting to sit in. It is a lovely cottage though, and we had a very enjoyable week in Lyme as always.

“We love this old, quirky 3 star cottage.”

It suits us and our largish dog as we’re relatively fit and healthy. The cottage is central but quiet (no traffic!), cozy, comfy and well equipped. We’ve stayed there multiple times and will go back. However there is no parking close by and this, with the steps to the front door and the shallow stairs to the 1st floor make it unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. You will also need to budget approx £100 to park for a week in the council run Holmbush car park in the summer months.

“I have given a thumbs down to the accuracy of the listing because it was not made clear to me on the website that not only is there no parking at Ivy Cottage, there is no access for a car.”

We arrived and departed in pouring rain and had to make several trips each time to unload and then reload the car. Up a hill. Carrying bags and bags of things. My legs are not what they used to be (I am 72) and while I found the stairs in the cottage OK, walking to the car like that was not. We also were taken aback that the car parking for a week added more than £100 to our holiday. We enjoyed the cottage otherwise.

The cottage itself is cosy, well equipped and comfortable. It’s in a perfect location for everything that Lyme has to offer and the advantage of being quiet too. A problem with the washing machine was quickly dealt with.

Very comfy cosy cottage in great location. Only issue was the fence had broken in the garden and our dog escaped twice. Made it more difficult having to put on lead to go out all the time.

If I had to mention anything negative I would say to make sure the place is thoroughly clean between lettings including the crockery and cutlery. Also the bedding is very tired and grey. We loved the compactness, the location and that it was warm and comfy. Would definitely recommend and go back.

The cottage is located on Sherborne Lane, a very old and picturesque street in the centre of the town. Much of Lyme is built on steep hills. Guests can normally stop at the bottom of the lane to unload/load before finding a space at the public carpark. We will arrange to take some up to date photos to show the steps and staircase. The location was excellent, on a quiet street but very close to the shops, town mill and beach front. The house was cosy and had very comfortable beds. Our kids loved the xbox and toys/games, and we appreciated the various streaming services provided on the TV for after they had gone to bed! We plan to return to Lyme Regis next year and will book this cottage again.

Very misleading since we filtered properties on this as it was a must for our comfort. Curtains very thin and let in too much light. Lovely cottage though and enjoyed the little extras like xbox and boardgames.

“Nowhere in bedroom to plug hairdryer/ straighteners in near mirror.”

Loads of storage , but bit off putting as loads owners stuff in them. Cottage pretty, beds very comfortable . T.V, . Almost impossible to use, constantly breaks up and sound goes, unable to even get BBC 1. Very disappointing as was there on day of Queens Funeral. Be handy have coffee table in front of sofa. Access a nightmare for anyone with mobility issues. Struggled to pull a suitcase up and down hill while using a stick to. Please make clearer in your details nit possible to get car down lane in order ti drop passengers/ luggages off. unsuitable anyone with mobility issues. We also spent a fortune on parking . Felt somewhat trapped in cottage as not possible to be picked up outside cottage and struggled walking up and down the hill.

“Top-notch location, and a really cosy downstairs with a nice sofa, plenty of space for us to have meals.”

Quaintly unsquare in pretty much all aspects! Upstairs a spacious main bedroom and a smaller kids' room (but still plenty of room) plus bathroom. No problem with parking in the Woodmead car park (£60 for a seven-day permit) though it was designed for 1980s-size cars so it's a bit tight! Pros: Great location (~5 min from beach), nice to have a little garden to sit in in the sun, cosy and quaint cottage, comfy beds. Cons: Curtains are very thin so rooms are *very* light in the morning; only winter duvets supplied (10.5 tog in 30C heat? No thanks!); shower attachment not brilliant so you have to hold the shower head if you don't want to sit on the taps; no dishwasher (listing wrong). But these are pretty minor cons.

We did find however the bed in the master bedroom to be quite small. It would have been nicer if it had been bigger (e.g. queen size). For a stay longer than 3 days it could have been uncomfortable.

The property

Situated in one of the oldest and prettiest lanes in Lyme Regis, this period cottage provides an attractive and comfortable holiday home. The cottage retains many period features, including window seats and exposed beams. The age of the property does mean that some of the doorways have restricted height but the ceilings are not particularly low. Sherborne Lane is too narrow to allow through traffic and is therefore one of the quietest spots in the centre of town. A welcome pack for your arrival ensures a great start to your holiday and will include milk, tea and a selection of locally sourced produce and treats. A pretty cottage garden at the rear provides a private area for enjoying a glass of wine or soaking up the early evening sunshine. This property is only a few minutes walk from the shops and seafront.
