Backlands Farmhouse

Backlands Farmhouse is a beautiful, comfortable house, furnished to a high standard.

Charmouth is a lovely village offering good amenities. However, our holiday was ruined by the ongoing building work on the attached house. We were informed of the building work before we went but assured that the work was external, and would not impact on our holiday. Unfortunately, the extensive work was internal as well as external, with continuous noise and disruption. Despite the number of times we checked with Sykes prior to starting our holiday, we were not given accurate information. Because of the ongoing disruption, we decided to leave before the end of holiday. Due to the disruption, we decided to leave before the end of our holiday. Had we been given more accurate information prior to the holiday, we would have cancelled the booking.

I have stayed at the cottage before, and love it.

This year I stayed with 2 girlfriends and all was well until we had no hot water after the first night. We were unable to understand the boiler; ( no instructions for heating/ water etc that we could find) and despite a plumber coming twice, we had neither hot water nor heating for 48 hours,and used the wood burner as the weather was cool and showery. After 48 hours, and with Millie's help, (from the local Lyme Bay cottages contact) ,the boiler was repaired and hot water and heating was available. We also thought that the instruction leaflets would be better placed in the information file. But we loved the generous welcome pack, thank you very much, and all the thoughtful extras such as umbrella, and hairdryers in each room, and I think the cottage is the most attractive and well equipped that I have stayed in.

Overall the accommodation was of a high standard.

It was very nicely furnished and comfortable. The kitchen area was of good quality with all modern equipment available. Bedrooms were of good proportions together with a well equipped bathroom. On a minor point the shower room was a little cramped. Property is in an excellent location for access to all amenities. Throughly recommended for a quiet and relaxing holiday.

This is a lovely comfortable place to stay in Charmouth - quiet, walking distance to pubs/shop, nice and self contained.

The welcome pack of goodies was well thought out and greatly appreciated

Very specious and well equipped with everything you need. Great location near Lyme Regis which we absolutely loved. We highly recommend Backlands Farmhouse as a place to stay in Charmouth.

It was clean, spacious and had everything (especially in the kitchen!) that we needed! We loved Charmouth and really enjoyed exploring the area. The owners left a lovely welcome pack full of local goodies which was very well received! We definitely would return to Backlands Farmhouse.

Fabulous property, excellent location.

Very comfortable. Bath towels a bit small. Fairly quiet but road noise from A35. Very well equipped and beautiful furniture and pictures. Very tasteful. Lovely sunny garden with eating area. Will rent again and bring my larger towels!

Beautifully clean and everything you could possibly need for a very comfortable holiday. Backlands was really quiet, as it’s not directly on the road. Had a wonderful holiday and would definitely book this Property again.

Brilliant location in a quiet village with a bus stop 30 seconds away.

We really enjoyed our visit and the locals were friendly. The farmhouse was lovely and a a patio area to catch the sun in the evening.

Lovely place to stay, modern and clean.

Plenty of room. Everything you needed. Could not fault the property at all. Great local shops, short walk to the beach, good base for visiting other towns. Look forward to staying again in the future.

The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed for a fantastic stay.

The little touchers like the welcome pack was lovely. I would highly recommend the accommodation to anyone and wish me and the family had more time there. Will 100% book again.

Holiday home perfection.

Perfectly quiet and comfortable and spotlessly clean and tidy. Loved the welcome pack. Only reason it lost a star is because we agree with other reviewers that you honestly do need a handrail for the garden steps. The location is fantastic. Cannot recommend this escape enough. We loved it.

I would highly recommend a stay in Backlands Farmhouse.

The farmhouse was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The local Nissa shop is 1 minutes walk away and very well stocked. The Royal Oak is about 4 minutes walk away and the food is excellent. The farmhouse is very well situated for exploring Dorsey. Lyme Regis, well worth visiting is about 10 minutes drive away.

The house is beautifully furnished with a kitchen that is really nice and with every plate dish, spoon or pan you could need.

Bathrooms are tidy - though the main bathroom sink could do with some tlc. Parking worked well Charmouth is a lovely village and its only a short walk down to a lovely choice of beaches very quiet with limited local traffic problems; with two of us in a 3 bed house - my daughter chose the king size bed - which had been previously repaired - but broke again- emailed the owners in the house pack and had no reply; not a problem for us we had a spare bed For old farts like me with slightly dodgy balance the steps down to the house are a problem - fit a rail on the left side - or re-instate the gate by the parking bay.

We loved the cottage.

Beautifully decorated and fitted out and we enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the heatwave! Very convenient for the village shops and eateries, and the bus to Lyme. Thank you for the Welcome pack.

Lovely house, with everything you could possibly need provided.

Very handy for all the facilities in Charmouth. Bath sheets would be a good addition, and a larger TV would be a big improvement. We had problems with the gate, which often sticks shut and can be difficult to open. Also, something to offer support when ascending and descending the steps would be helpful. We were also worried that we would lock ourselves out of the property: even when unlocked, the front door cannot be opened from outside without a key. We really enjoyed our short stay in this lovely house.

The property was excellent- very clean, well appointed, good location, parking and very comfortable.

Kitchen equipment, crockery, sheets, towels etc were all like new and obviously a lot of thought and care has gone into making this property well appointed and such a pleasure to use. Thank you!

What a wonderful holiday property!

Very comfortable, warm, well equipped and clean. The location is fantastic too. We enjoyed being able to walk from the house to Seatown, Golden Cap and Lyme Regis and also enjoyed a trip to Bridport and West Bay. Thank you very much for the lovely welcome pack.

Absolutely wonderful farmhouse.

Every thing you could need for a comfortable stay was there. Very modern interior and the decor was second to none. Had a fabulous stay and would highly recommend to everyone.

Lovely spacious cottage, well appointed with modern appliances.

Even the washing machine was a joy to use! There’s a well-stocked local shop which stays open until 9pm so no need to bring much with you. Easy walk to the beach and cliffs. Enjoyed the generous welcome pack. Overall - excellent.

It's a lovely property with pretty much all you need for a quiet and relaxing time.

the local shops are just around the corner and there is a bustop at the end of the access road the parking for two cars is also a bonus the only thing that I think should be mentioned is the fact that the staircase is quite steep and if like me your mobility is not so good it's a bit tricky but not a deal breaker

Wonderful property, excellent location, so well equipped.

We really enjoyed our week here, Charmouth is a great place for an autumn break and the sunshine was a bonus. The house was spotlessly clean, we appreciated the welcome pack and off road parking. It comfortably accommodated four adults and we hope to return.

This property is lovely.

It is extremely well equipped and comfortable. One slight downside was that one of the double beds had a cracked frame which creaked throughout the night. A minor issue though and we would definitely visit again.

The house was lovely but the parking was not great…if you got two estate cars they would not fit as you have to leave access space for the cottage behind.

.also situated on a steep hill which makes it difficult to load or unload your car as you can’t really park outside as you would block the road. The farmhouse is situated on an extremely steep hill which unless you are a pretty fit person makes it difficult walking anywhere. If you go on a Monday pretty much everything is closed so you need to bring your own food. The two menus for the local pubs are not that great if you’re allergic to seafood. All in all great farmhouse but parking awkward and not an ideal location because of the steep hill

We really liked this property but have a few points we would like to raise .

1. Downstairs shower room/toilet had some long hair on the floor so we felt it had not been cleaned properly. It also did not have any toilet rolls. 2. We felt that the property should have had a couple of toilet rolls in each bathroom . 3. We were disappointed that the property didn’t have basics , salt and pepper and sugar. People don’t want to have to bring that for 3/4 nights away. Many thanks Susan Johnson

Had a lovely week at Backlands Farmhouse.

Couldn’t fault the accommodation. Spotless, well decorated and comfortable. Kitchen very well equipped. Off-road parking was appreciated. Good location in Charmouth, 5 minutes walk to the beach with a shop, chippy and pubs nearby. Bus to Lyme Regis stops nearby. Great base for just relaxing or exploring the area. We loved it, would definitely recommend!!!

Excellent property, perfect for our group of 3 friends.

2 requests 1. It would be to useful to have a soap holder in downstairs shower room 2. It would be useful to have outdoor washing line (there was a new whirly gig in its packet but no hole to put it in)

It would be hard to criticise anything about Backlands Farmhouse.

It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. Everything looked as new. All the appliances worked, the showers were very good, which can sometimes be a problem with holiday cottages. It felt spacious for the four of us. Parking was a bit difficult at times, but it is not easy to see how it could be improved. We liked the cottage. We liked the village.

What a wonderful cottage, throughly recommended.

It was spotlessly clean, the kitchen is incredibly well equipped and the house is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The artwork round the house gives it a unique and coastal feel. The location is fantastic with two pubs, a well stocked village shop, fish and chip shop and a few other useful shops in close proximity. The beach is a couple of minutes drive. The welcome hamper is the best I’ve ever had with lovely local treats. There’s off road parking and a garden to sit out in. As others have said the tv is a bit small but it’s perfectly adequate. It didn’t detract from our stay. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you

We’ve had a lovely stay at Backlands farmhouse!

The house is absolutely beautiful and was immaculately clean with everything you could possibly need for your stay! The kitchen was really well equipped! We received a lovely welcome pack…thank you! Charmouth is beautiful and has some lovely walks around the area and along the coastal paths! The local shop is well stocked if run out of anything and the bakery is a must! The two pubs are just a short walk away but booking is recommended if you want to eat as they get busy! Charmouth is really well placed to visit lots of interesting and beautiful places in and around Dorset! We will definitely be back again!

The property was great ,with everything that we needed, we arrived in horrendous weather so to have milk in the fridge and the welcome pack which had lots of lovely things in for us to have a cup of tea,biscuits and fudge was very appreciated .

Very comfortable, spacious, extremely clean and well stocked. We would happily stay there again. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed lunch and an afternoon on the garden relaxing. One of our party had a pacemaker, so he was banned from being in close range to the induction hob when in use.

Fantastic property was as described, everything was clean and well provided for.

Nice extra touch with a gift bag of provisions and milk in the fridge. Two things for improvement A. I would say provide larger towels for the shower as they were rather small :) B. The TV in the lounge is on the small side but I understand people are generally out and about

Backlands Farmhouse with its own very convenient parking area is really well equipped, spacious, nicely decorated and very clean and the kitchen has pretty well everything a cook could need which was great.

We feel the beds could have been bigger, they were too small for us but I think the photos did indicate they were probably only double. It would be nice to add a few cushions in the sitting room and a coffee table but the curtains and blind in the snug are beautifully made. Loo roll should be provided, we brought our own being seasoned holiday cottage takers, but appreciated the generous goody bag which was a treat, thank you. We used the village shops and bakery and the two pubs with their friendly staff and fires lit as the weather wasn't great. We had lunch at River Cottage Kitchen and Store, delicious and looked after by delightful staff and of course fab views. Athelhampton House - stunning - and inspiring guide at Thomas Hardy's Cottage. Poundbury and Tropical Gardens - interesting to see. A waik along the beach to Lyme Regis and The Cobb, coffee with the jovial barman at The Rock Point Inn and checked in with the fishmonger at the Wet Fish Shop in Lyme Regis. Obviously lots of lovely walks in the area and many more NT and other properties open later in the season so plenty to do. All in all a comfortable and relaxing slightly out of season Dorset break.
