Wooden flooring stretches throughout the wonderful open-plan living area of this property, reverse level in allow for seating with a view of the ocean below, where you will find delightful wooden roofbeams punctuating crips white walls and French windows opening up onto an enclosed balcony, so you can enjoy a morning coffee with a view.
Stylish leather sofas create a space to recline and when mealtimes call, head over to the amply fitted kitchen, where you will find everything that you will need in order to cook up a storm and create a masterpiece, with marble look work surfaces, wooden cupboards and plenty of space for social cooking, and you can present your masterpiece on a wooden dining table, making this a fantastic social area for the whole family to enjoy.
Three bedrooms encourage guests to settle down for the night, starting with two bedrooms on the ground-floor, a king-size with tasteful furniture and a fantastic en-suite shower-room where you can soak the sand from your hair amongst the contemporary marble-look tiles, and a twin room with homely décor, as well as a bathroom for all guests to enjoy a relaxing soak amongst the bubbles.
On the first floor you will find a single bedroom with a TV, and there is a handy utility to take care of your sandy clothes.
Outside, a beautiful garden creates a great space to relax, with a raised decking area offering a table and chairs, great for reclining in at the end of the day with a glass of your favourite beverage, with ornamental fish skeletons decorating the walls, in keeping with the Jurassic coast theme, and there are wonderful shrubs throughout the garden adding a splash of colour, as well as a lawn area for picnics and steps down to the front of the house, where you will see the beautiful mixture of thatch, windows and stone.
Lyme Regis is a fantastic area for a seaside getaway for families and groups of adults alike, offering two museums, Langmoor and Lister Gardens, Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium and a great selection of eateries for you to enjoy a tasty hot meal made from local produce.
With the Jurassic coast within such close range to the property it would be a shame not to make the most of the salty air by taking a stroll along the bay, taking in the stretches of ocean and towering cliffs, and maybe even searching amongst the rocky shore for fossils.
Travel a little further to visit Cannington Viaduct or enjoy a walk through Blackbury Camp before ending the day at Cobb Harbour as the sun sets.

A delightful property
First impressions of the house was looked lovely but the gravel from the drive was all over the place and could have done with a sweep.
over the week there was a few things that could be better. The garden could have done with grass cutting and tidying up. The bath towels were really small and do need to be bigger. The bed was really uncomfortable and gave me and my wife back ache, it does look like it could do with a new mattress. Also the bed had a hospital sheet rather than a fitted sheet so every time you moved the sheet would move with you. The pillows also weren’t that great, we just felt that things are wearing out but not being replaced. The house is placed quite high up a hill, great for the half view, once walked down into the town to get back is a struggle getting back up such a steep hill.
Oh, deary me! After over twenty years of rental reviews on our property, your comments raised are somewhat bewildering, considering only two weeks ago someone commented that our property was the best they had ever rented in the UK. Other reviews also contain quite a few positive comments. Therefore, as owners, we are saddened to read so many negative issues which clearly must have been devastating during your stay. We do have a shared drive with neighbours and from time to time, people wheelspin on the gravel causing it to spread over a wider area. Our sincere apologies if this was so off-putting to yourselves. We do have the lawns mowed every two weeks, but again, apologies if the grass has looked untidy during your visit. With the recent drought and then following heavy rain, all lawns have taken to a growth surge. We replace all mattresses in the property every four years, and I can assure you the king-sized double mattress in the main bedroom is of good quality. We apologies if the mattress was not to your exact liking. Lyme Bay Holidays/ Sykes provide all linen and towels for their rentals, and I will pass on your comments about unfitted bottom sheets and small towels. With regards to the feather pillows, again we change all pillows and quilts every eighteen months, along with continuous upgrades and redecoration. Therefore, we are puzzled as why you commented that `things are wearing out and not being replaced’. As you state, the cottage is high up the hill, exactly as we emphasis in the write up for our cottage, it is a ten-minute uphill walk from the town. Lyme Regis town is at the bottom of a hill, no matter what direction you intend to travel. I am sorry if you struggled to get back up the steep hill and perhaps, we need to highlight the cottage location details in larger print, plus point out that a regular bus service runs from town, up to the car park near to our cottage. We have tried hard over the past twenty years to permanently upgrade and enhance the cottage, hoping that holidaymakers will enjoy their rental experience. From other customer comments, most people all appear to enjoy their stay at our cottage.
The property is lovely and really well presented.
We have stayed before sometime ago and a number of upgrades were noticed...new furniture, new bifold windows. The welcome pack was lovely and the information about the property and the area was really helpful.

Sheer heaven! This is our fourth stay in this beautifully appointed cottage. Since our last visit there have been many improvements. (not that they were needed!). New thatched roof, sofas, relaxing garden furniture, bi - fold doors … I could go on! The sea views through the bifold doors are magnificent! Thank you also for the tasteful 'Welcome Pack'. The owners, who had been staying the week before, left the most delicious bottle of Bridport Fizz! A very thoughtful and appreciated gesture. A fan had also been ordered for us, as we had our 17 month old granddaughter staying too! Such attention to detail. All this, AND … wonderful weather … we hit the JACKPOT when we booked 'Bucket and Spade'! Thank you!

We loved our stay at bucket and space!
It is a lovely cosy home with a beautiful big window which you can sit and look out over the ocean. We had the best time celebrating our honeymoon and would be excited to come and stay again! The only small issue for us was the continuous works on the house next door. They were using multiple diggers from 8am until late in the day so we didn’t feel like we could enjoy the garden or have the windows open but as it was very loud. Do understand that this is not the fault of the owners at bucket at spade, but did affect our trip.
Our apologies if diggers were working on the next door property, as we did not receive any notice from our neighbours, something we will discuss with them. We hope you had a lovely honeymoon in Lyme Regis; Congratulations.
This was our 49th stay at the lovely coastal property that is Bucket and Spade.
We really appreciate that every time we go there has been little improvements by the owners. This time it was a new heating system(Hive) which did prove a little warm during our stay but didn’t detract from our enjoyment. We also made use of the Velux blinds upstairs when the sun got too much. We’ve stayed so many times here that we feel like it’s our home from home, with it’s comfortable and stylish interiors and the small but perfect back garden which we actually took advantage of during our stay. Enjoying a cool drink whilst lounging on the outdoor furniture. We love staying here and we will definitely be back
Great property halfway up the hill in Lyme Regis.
Very well maintained and cleaned, with thoughtfully chosen fixtures and fittings. For once, this is a property with more than two dishwasher tablets provided. It's also unusual to have to spend the entire week turning the heating thermostat down from 23C twice a day.

Absolutely loved the house.
It had everything you need for a break whether long or short & aimed at comfort. Plenty to cook with and to serve. Nice towels and comfortable bed. The view is fabulous of the bay even in winter. We would definitely recommend the house.

This was our 48th visit to Bucket and Spade so we are well aware of its lovely position overlooking the coast and its comfortable and welcoming accommodation.
Unfortunately the bifold doors became faulty during our stay. However, between the owner and Sykes this problem was tackled with efficiency and did not negatively affect our stay. We would definitely recommend this property and Sykes Holiday Cottages to our friends and family or to anyone who wants superior accommodation in a stunning setting

A beautiful house which provides just about everything you need.
The courtyard garden is excellent to have breakfast, drinks, etc. The views from the lounge window are outstanding. Sorry, but the beds were uncomfortable. Everything else was top draw.

We love Lyme Regis and we always stay in our Dorset home from home that is Bucket and Spade.
This is actually our 47th stay. We love the location, the fact it has off road parking, great views across the bay and all the comforts of home you could ask for. We even got to sit out on the sun loungers in the garden and on the patio as the weather was so kind to us. We would recommend staying in this property at anytime during the year as it’s equipped for all seasons and there’s always something happening in Lyme

Lots of special touches that we appreciated. The hamper was a treat; my son and granddaughter (from Brazil), took some items back home with them! A pleasure to come home to each evening. Loved the views. An enjoyable walk down to the beach, good restaurants and an ideal spot from which to explore many nearby places.

Great place to stay in Lyme.
We had no heating for half our stay in cold weather. Your refund of £50 was inadequate.
We were sorry you experienced some problems with the heating. Sadly if you had used the emergency phone number with the booking agent we would have been able to provide you with heaters and put the immersion heater on for hot water whilst waiting for the engineer. Sadly you didn’t report the problem for over a day. It was then dealt with efficiently. We were pleased you found your four day stay a great place to stay, even though you experienced this problem and we hope you come again.

Very spacious, well equipped and in great position with views out to sea.
Also very quiet at night. Its a very short distance down to the sea front but its a very steep hill to climb back. Cannot really find anything negative about the property, thoroughly enjoyed the stay

It was lovely to return to Bucket and Spade, not least because the owners make it so welcoming, and also provide excellent instructions on how to use the equipment (which we need!
). The tremendous views along the coastline are still outstanding... It would be good if the bedside lights in the main bedroom could have brighter bulbs for reading in bed. We'd also like to thank Lyme Bay Holidays for responding so swiftly and efficiently (within a couple of hours) to sort out our problem with the dishwasher.

Bigger towels required A bit odd having no food cupboard
We’ve stayed at this property so many times and we now consider it our home from home.
It’s ideally located near all the facilities of Lyme. It’s got parking and plenty of space for everyone. We especially love the views from the French windows upstairs. No matter what the weather you can watch the skies and sea change colour between Lyme and Portland, if you are lucky. Can’t fault this property and we are grateful to the owners Tim and Sue for sharing their lovely home

You have a wonderful house, superbly done and beautifully looked after and I adored the views from the massive opening window at the front of the living room My only feedback would be to change the beds in the 2nd bedroom to ziplock double We had two couples on our holiday and one couple had to be in singles.
When they could have been in a double - the room is big enough, this is more flexible than two singles that can’t be pushed together Otherwise wonderful and I’d definitely come back. The benefit of parking too which is hard to find Lyme Regis was an added bonus

Superb accommodation !
We had a wonderful stay at this stylish, comfortable home for 5 days over Christmas. The reality is so much more than the photos show. We would love to return in the summertime to make even more use of the fab bi-fold doors which give a great view of the coastline. We’ve stayed at Bucket and Spade on numerous occasions and we will continue to do so for two reasons, firstly we love Lyme Regis and secondly we now treat this property as a home from home.
It’s comfortable, it has off road parking and fantastic views over the Jurassic coastline. We would definitely recommend this property to both families and couples as it is well equipped for both. We actually returning to this property in December to get a taste of Lyme as we near Christmas

Another fabulous holiday at Bucket and Spade!
Superbly appointed property with everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The facilities are first class with stunning views around the coast. A real bonus is the close proximity to the town and seafront in walking distance from the property. We are already looking forward to our visit next year as in our opinion this is the best place to stay on the Jurassic Coast!

Except for Covid, we've been coming to B&S for 12 years.
We last came in 2019. Everything fine but, being elderly and unfamiliar, we had to fumble with the new cooking instructions - a tense and trialing experience when tired. Otherwise all as splendid as usual. But, sadly, we may not be coming again as prices are likely to be beyond our pensioners' budget.

The property is advertised exactly as it says.
The kitchen is very well equipped and the layout of the kitchen, dining area and lounge with it's bifold doors opening out to views of the sea is both restful and heavenly. The beds were very comfortable and everything was spotless. We had a most wonderful stay and our leg muscles improved over the days with our walks to and from the sea.

Hi I had to ring ahead and spoke to a Lovely lady called helen who went above and beyond to find out if the house had an upstairs toilet for My mother in law , I missed her phone call back and didn’t want to miss the opportunity so I booked online but i wanted to personally praise her as she was very helpful , first time using Sykes and I will definitely use again , house was beautiful as was Lyme Regis only downside was the weather so next time can you please guarantee us sunshine ( haha )

We recently enjoyed a 3night stay at Bucket and Spade.
We found the location with parking excellent.The house is superbly appointed,with great views .The welcome goody bag was a lovely touch,and we enjoyed the contents thankyou. The only downside for us was the overcomplicated oven/microwave.We would have liked to find a standard oven which most people are familiar with. This resulted in us not being able to dine in.

Excellent property in a great location.
In fact Bucket & Spade is better than the pictures show on the Sykes website. New sofa and chairs in the lounge and refurbished bathroom downstairs. We were almost put off booking because of the bathroom with a hand held shower in the bath, but this has now been replaced with a free standing shower head, new bath and tiling. Cannot fault this property.

Fabulous property, and so very comfortable - except for the single beds which were not great I think Divan beds would be more comfortable.
But apart from that it was pretty much perfect - good position too.

We had a wonderful stay at Bucket and Spade.
The house is beautifully designed and decorated to a very high standard. The open plan living area works really well and has a fabulous panoramic view over the bay. There are many folders with instructions and Lyme Regis is only a few minutes' walk away. There was a very generous "Welcome Pack' of biscuits, fudge, coffee etc which was very thoughtful. Thank you.
We have stayed in this property numerous times as we love both Lyme Regis and the peace of mind of knowing that we are in the safe hands of Lyme Bay Holidays should anything go wrong.
The advantages of staying in Bucket and Spade are numerous. Firstly there is ample park space for two good sized cars which is a huge plus around Lyme. Next, the accommodation is of high quality throughout and finally the views from the upstairs lounge are superb whatever the weather. As usual the house was immaculately cleaned by the LBH team and there was a welcome pack of goodies awaiting us on arrival. Towels are provided which is a help and the kitchen is well equipped should you choose to dine in. There is also a smart tv with all the usual apps as well as the option of Apple TV, a PlayStation and a DVD player for those rainy days. We would recommend LBH and this property to anyone who wants a truly comfortable stay in a lovely part of Dorset

We have been letting our cottage through Lyme Bay Holidays for nearly twenty years and no matter what assistance is required, they always provide a prompt and professional service. We agree that having off-road parking for two vehicles directly next to the cottage is a bonus in Lyme Regis, with so many properties having no parking, inconvenient parking, or requirements to park in local car parks, all of which can lead to a stressful holiday when you consider the narrow streets around Lyme Regis and the need to drag suitcases over long distances. Thank you for mentioning views across the sea from the cottage upstairs lounge area, as images on the website do not portray just how beautiful the view is across Lyme Bay, to Golden cap and even Portland Bill on good days. We really enjoyed our week in Bucket and Spade.
It is a beautifully furnished and equipped house. The location is great too and nicely set back from the road. We could see that the owners have continually updated and modernised the property and we benefitted from a newly fitted kitchen and bi fold doors. Our suggestions would be a new set of frying pans and a silicon spatular (to prevent scratching of the pans) plus tongues. A few more mugs would be helpful and some more large glasses. Otherwise everything was pretty perfect. Thank you for a lovely stay.

What a lovely holiday cottage!
We really enjoyed our stay and the view from the front window was just amazing. The cottage has everything we needed, was incredibly clean and was an easy walk into town. All the appliances and fittings were top of the range. My only negative comment would be that even though I googled the user manual, we weren’t able to get the dryer part of the washer-dryer to dry any clothes. It might be more straightforward to have a separate dryer, on top of the worktop. Also would be useful to have an electric fan available for each bedroom. Overall, we would definitely return to this lovely cottage!
