“What a beautiful and charming cottage, set in a quiet village.”

We loved the traditional old furniture, listening to music on the record player on our first evening was lovely. Our dogs loved exploring the garden although it’s not enclosed but our dogs wouldn’t wander off so not a problem for us. The beds were very comfortable which is a plus. We enjoyed listening to the bells ringing on the hour from the church. If peace and relaxation is what you’re looking for then church cottage is for you. We would definitely go again.

Instructions provided clear and welcome pack a very nice surprise. bird has made a hole in the thatched roof which needs to be fixed urgently.

On arrival the appearance was beautiful, inside some of the lights were not working, when we took our bags upstairs the bathroom floor was wet due to the toilet leaking, a jug had been placed underneath to catch the water, which had now overflowed, issues experienced by us and previous holiday makers have still not been addressed which is concerning, this could be a wonderful place to stay, but at the moment it is not worth the amount of money that we paid, we have been on numerous holidays with sykes and have always been more that satisfied with the accommodation but this time we were rather disappointed

“The cottage and location are stunning, it was simply beautiful.”

The welcome gifts were exceptional and gratefully received. Thank you. The cottage itself is very well equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. One little thing we noticed was the settee and armchairs were a little bit uncomfortable and tired, however everything else is great. The location is great for accessing both Bridport and Lyme Regis and all the surrounding areas easily. Colmer’s Hill and Golden Cap are a must for beautiful walks with heavenly views at the end. The cottage is also great for dogs with a lovely, safe field just up the path from the cottage. We had an amazing time and we loved every minute. We would definitely recommend Church Cottage.

The fridge door has no functioning shelves which possibly would be a problem if the house was full.Other than that had a wonderful time in Church Cottage.

The property

Quietly situated in the heart of the sleepy Dorset Village of Whitchuch Canonicorum, this quaint detached cottage is just a 10 minute drive from Charmouth and Lyme Regis,and the stunning Jurassic Coast. Located in the beautiful unspoilt Marshwood Vale, the maze of bridleways, footpaths and narrow winding lanes will appeal to the keen walker and those with a love for the great outdoors. This very pretty, detached thatched cottage has been sympathetically furnished and retains much of its original character and charm and in typical long house style, many of the rooms are interconnecting. Full of period features including solid oak floor boards, exposed timber beams, a flagstone kitchen floor a real treat is the superb inglenook with woodburner in the living room, ideal for those cosy nights in. Outside there is parking for 2 cars and a large mature garden bordered by a stream, a real haven for wildlife and an ideal place for children to play while you sit and relax with a good book and a glass of wine. A welcome pack for your arrival ensures a great start to your holiday and will include milk, tea and a selection of locally sourced produce and treats. There is a pub and playpark within a five minute walk and the popular Dorset towns of Lyme Regis, Bridport and West Bay are just a short drive away. WHITCHURCH CANONICORUM

Bridport 5.4 miles.

Referred to as the capital of the Marshwood Vale, Whitchurch Canonicorum is an attractive mix of farms and cottages. Whitchurch Canonicorum is where you can find the very ancient church of St. Candida and the Holy Cross. It is unique in being the only parish church in England to contain the remains of an ancient saint. There is a well nearby, also named after the Saint, which is also rumoured to have similar healing properties. The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns.
