Once the kids are grown up enough to start spending their days in school and their evenings with friends, finding the time to spend together gets harder and harder. It’s a fact of life, but it means that when we do get the chance to spend real quality time together, it’s all the sweeter.

It’s also why our holidays are often where our most treasured memories are created. With nothing but time to spend together, you can relax, have fun and take in each other’s company without the stresses of work or school to get between you and your kids.

Whether you’re taking in the sights from one of our amazing holiday cottages or getting a little more active in Dorset’s amazing countryside, you’re going to need some activities to keep everyone happy along the way.

Thankfully, Lyme Regis is an amazing spot for parents and kids alike, with endless activities available throughout the year. Here are some of our top recommendations:

Discover our Prehistoric Past

Lyme Regis is much more than just a historic coastal town. Its beautiful old streets, amazing restaurants, top shops and more are situated in one of the most important archaeological sites in the world – the Jurassic Coast.

A World Heritage site, the Jurassic Coast is a 96-mile stretch of coastline which begins in Exmouth and ends in Studland Bay. But why is it so important? Well, roughly 66 million years ago, the area was a crucial part of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, where giant dinosaurs roamed the land and the world was a very different place.

Today, you’ll find there are countless ways to enjoy Lyme Regis’ monstrous history. Whether you head down to Lyme Regis Beach for some fossil hunting, visit the Dinosaurland Fossil Museum or go on a fossil hunting tour alongside local experts, you’ll find that Lyme Regis is perhaps the best spot in the world for dinosaur lovers.

Hit the (Mini) Links

Lyme Regis’ coastline is truly something to behold, but besides wandering along its edge, swimming in its waters and taking it in as you eat dinner, how else can you enjoy it? Well, with the 18-hole mini golf course at Lister Gardens in the heart of Lyme Regis, you can enjoy it whilst proving your supremacy out on the course.

Suitable for kids ages 4 and up, the course costs just £1.50 for kids under 14 and only £3 for adults, making it an extremely affordable, super fun day out for everyone – just don’t let your competitive side show!

Take to the Ocean

The land might have plenty to see and do, but you’d make a mistake if you didn’t discover what the ocean had to offer too. Thankfully, you’re not short of options when it comes to exploring the sea.

There are loads of ways to enjoy the ocean, from amazing high-octane Rib Rides which offer an entirely new perspective on the Jurassic Coast to fishing trips where you can try your hand at catching something out at sea with the multiple fishing trip providers based on the Cobb.

Alternatively, if you’re confident on a surfboard, Lyme Bay is a top spot for surfers who arrive every year to take in its superb water conditions. Kids can get used to the feeling of surfing with paddleboard and surfboard lessons, widely available in Lyme Regis.
