    “We were delighted with the accommodation .”

    Very private , quiet stylish and well maintained . The village is lovely with friendly locals. Ample facilities , great dog walks and a short distance to the beautiful coastline. We would deifinitely make a return visit .

The property

Upside Down Cottage is a Grade 2 listed cottage located in the heart of the historic market town of Colyton, Devon. Tucked in behind and situated within the grounds of a period house, Upside Down Cottage is approached from a shared path leading to the cottage with its quaint courtyard seating area at the front. With many walks, pubs, shops and restaurants close by, this pet-friendly property is an ideal base for a couple looking to enjoy all that this area has to offer. Step into this reverse-level home and find an open-plan living area on the first floor with vaulted ceilings and characterful beams. The seating area is a lovely space to relax and socialise in with windows looking out to the quiet lane below and countryside beyond. The kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher and all necessary cooking appliances for creating delicious meals. Located on the ground floor is the bedroom, a comfortable double room, serviced by the ground floor shower room to set you up for the day ahead. Colyton is a town steeped in history retaining many old buildings and features of a bygone age with a wonderful selection of traditional shops, including an award-winning butchers and traditional bakery, alongside galleries, artisan eateries and tea rooms. When you prefer not to cook, you will find welcoming local pubs and bistros serving an excellent choice of food and local beverages. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region is popular with walkers with a great selection of riverside walks including the East Devon Way within easy reach of the cottage. Hop on the tram and take a ride alongside the River Axe to Seaton. For nature lovers, enjoy the beautiful marshlands and reed beds with over 4 km of level trails and boardwalks and home to an abundance of wildlife. Why not take a day trip to nearby Beer, a popular fishing village with a pebble beach and a backdrop of limestone cliffs? A popular spot for swimming and paddleboarding, the beach is also home to beachfront cafes, where you can sit and enjoy a bite to eat and watch the local fishing boats come ashore with their catches. Other popular days out include Lyme Regis with its family-friendly beaches and famous Cobb harbour together with attractions such as the aquarium, and fossil museums where you can discover more about the geology of this well-known section of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Situated in East Devon, Colyton is a small town with its roots dating back to 700 AD. Situated around three miles from Seaton and six miles from Axmouth, Colyton has many links to its past with numerous historical buildings, such as St Andrew’s Church, and its winding lanes with independent shops. Good food and a warm welcome are on offer at the many inns. Colyton's tram station will provide you with an enjoyable ride alongside the River Axe to Seaton, where you can stop off to relax upon Seaton Beach, tour Beer Quarry Caves, or enjoy a leisurely afternoon strolling through Seafield Gardens.
