“Our family of 8 had a great stay at Waltham house, our second stay there.”

The location is excellent in Lyme Regis, the beach a few minutes walk away and everything you need close by. The welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk and some sweet treats was gratefully received and the kitchen has everything that you would need. The bedrooms are all clean and functional. The children loved the games room down in the cellar. The parking permit for the car park is helpful as parking in Lyme can be difficult and expensive. Be warned, If you have mobility issues this house is ...

“THis is a lovely house in a fantastic location.”

Close to Beach / Town and loads of places to eat. The house has very steep stairs up to 2nd and 3rd Floor, this was pointed out to us before we booked the house but just want to warn anyone they are very steep and narrow in places, not ideal for anyone who struggles on normal stairs. The house has to lounges one on ground floor and one on 2nd floor next to kitchen but you dont really have a comfortable sofa where you can all sit. In the ground floor lounge there is a Chaise Long that is comfy but the rest of the chairs/sofas are not. And on the 2nd floor lounge you have a L shaped sofa that you cant all sit together on. The Single Beds are super comfy but the Double Bed has a very hard mattress. Kitchen wise you have plenty of everything which we liked as some houses only give you enough for each person there to use once then you have to wash it all to be able to eat again, this house has plenty so you are not putting the dishwasher on only half full. (Could do with a potatoe masher). I would still recommend this house as its location wins over everything else.

Thank you for your positive comments regarding Waltham House, it’s location in Lyme Regis and the adequate amount of crockery / cutlery / etc for eight people. We do advise that the house is not entirely suitable for those with accessibility needs. Since the property is 17th century Grade 2 listed we are unable to change the stairways but we have added additional handrails to ensure safety. This has never been an issue with guests over the 30 years we have been letting it. The lounge on the ground floor comfortably seats 8 and the Dining Room on the first floor (next to the kitchen) seats at least eight around the large table. Additional furniture in this room would not be appropriate since it would prevent the bed settee from being folded out. The main bedroom with the a king sized bed has an expensive orthopaedic mattress with a foam topper as recommended. Most of the kitchen utensils (including the potato masher) , which are normally in the drawer, were in the stainless steel pot on the worktop by the hot plate. I’m sorry you weren’t able to locate it. I do hope that you had good weather on your visit to beautiful Dorset and will come again to Lyme. Property Owner

Perfect for a family seaside holiday and so close to the sea front. Lyme Regis itself was just delightful. We were glad we didn’t take our dogs though as having no garden would have made life difficult.

“Bed in main room was uncomfortable- parking just to unpack and repack the car was a night mare .”

Cups Plates and cutlery were dirty ( poss from last user).house smells damp . Positives close to the beach and small local shops . Lovely and quiet at night .

“Beautiful old property.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It was conveniently located for the beach, restaurants and fossil hunting. The only downside were the noisy seagulls at night time and early in the morning (which I know can't be helped). We hope to visit again, thank you.

The property

Waltham House is a 17th century Grade II listed property positioned in one of the oldest streets in Lyme Regis over looking a small public garden in Georges Square. This large and comfortable property has been modernised but still retains some of the original character. It includes exposed local Blue Lias stone walls and some gently sloping floors which add to the overall charm of the house. It is laid out over four floors, including a basement snooker room, and with the added bonus of a double sofa bed in the dining room there is enough space for larger families or groups of friends. The ground floor wet room is ideal for 'hosing` off sandy children after a day at the beach. A welcome pack for your arrival ensures a great start to your holiday and will include milk, tea and a selection of locally sourced produce and treats. There is a good stock of beach essentials including buckets and spades for those sunny days, and with a selection of books, games, and the snooker table for `very occasional` rainy days it makes this an ideal holiday home. Charmouth 3 miles; Axminster 6 miles; Bridport 10 miles; Sidmouth 16 miles.

The delightful seaside town of Lyme Regis has much to offer its visitors, boasting a maze of narrow streets filled with craft and antique shops, galleries and cafes. Take a stroll along the world-famous Cobb causeway overlooking the ancient harbour, where fishing trips can be enjoyed, or try your hand at fossil hunting in the area. The scenic coastal path offers excellent walking opportunities and spectacular views of the stunning Jurassic coast, whilst the gently shelving sands and sparkling waters of Lyme Bay provide the perfect place in which to relax and unwind. A holiday destination to savour!

We have been contacted by the local council concerning essential works taking place within the car park from the 3rd Feb for approximately 3-4 weeks weather dependent.
There will be a dedicated area for cars that have a parking permit to display, however please note that EV charging will not be available during this time but Charmouth Road Car Park and Holmbush Car Park chargers will be fully operational.
