“Access appalling, dangerous steps front and rear access.”

Should be inspected and mentioned on your website. Not suitable for people with mobility issues. This should also be mentioned on your website. I think Health & Safety would be a requisite and if they were notified I imagine they would stop any rentals until such time as the steps are purely right.

The description of the cottage does mention the steps. The council jointly own the steps at the rear of the property as it is a public right of way. The six railed steps leading down from the road can hardly be called dangerous. There is a way to avoid the steps by going through the back gate and through the park, if you need to. Most of Lyme Regis is on a hill, therefore steps are needed. when I spoke to you on the phone, you expressed what a lovely holiday you had. Not using the hot tub because it was to hot.And how you appreciated the effort we put into the decor. As this comment came in weeks after your holiday, I believe you have been thinking. Many guests have had happy holidays at the cottage and have indeed returned. Thank you for your input. Property Owner

“We loved staying at Pound Cottage.”

it is an amazing property perfectly situated to walk onto Lyme Regis via the River Lym path and close to the Talbot pub, its opening times were a bit hit and miss as was the food service which was a bit of a shame as we would have visited it more frequently. Really lovely host, Jaqueline got back to us quickly with any queries which is more than I can say about your customer service team who were pretty poor overall. Just a few negatives, the entrance to the property is very steep so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The gate is also a bit of a faff and needs to be lifted to open and close. Lastly the fridge and freezer is tiny so you can’t do a big shop if you are cooking meals at the cottage. Other than these small niggles it was a perfect place to stay and the bonus of a hot tub was great to relax in after a long day’s walking. We would definitely return again. Thanks Jaqueline

“This was a return visit to this cottage and we had a brilliant week.”

The cottage itself offers everything we need and from the previous visit we knew no logs for the gorgeous wood burner till winter months, so like last time, we took our own. Although, unlike last time, the heating was now unlocked, really pleased as we put it on briefly when chilly in the morning. We loved lying in the hot tub watching the bees in the garden and the sunsets. The Talbot Arms, just 5 mins walk away, does the most fantastic food, enjoyed pie night and the staff were great! Best apple & plum crumble! Worth booking. The walk from the back gate down the lane to the river Lyme and into Lyme Regis is very scenic and peaceful. It took about 20/25 mins to walk into Lyme Regis. Absolutely loved the new community waffle cafe on the broad street, delicious food with the loveliest staff. Also went to Symondsbury Estate on a beautiful autumn day, we walked the Holloway's which were well worth a visit. In summary lovely cottage, parking is across the road and there are steps down to the front door, but the location and surrounding area had lots to enjoy.

“We had a lovely stay, it is perfectly located for walking to Lyme Regis.”

Small cottage with everything that we needed and a lovely cottage garden. It was clean but there was an overpowering damp smell around the front door/kitchen area. In places cleaning wasn’t that thorough (under sofas and bannister felt ‘sticky’) though it was generally fine - bathrooms/beds etc were obviously clean. The wheelie bin was full on arrival and was never emptied during our stay so we had to put our general rubbish in public waste bins a couple of times.

“Great cottage, well located!”

Very comfortable and cosy! The little extras like tea, coffee milk etc were very much appreciated, to not have to rush straight to the shop on arrival. We had a very relaxed happy break and will definitely be back.

“It was a well positioned cottage as we enjoyed the walk into Lyme Regis.”

However, the cottage itself wasn’t up to the cleanliness that I expected. Carpets werent hoovered properly, mirrors and windows were not cleaned well and the garden was very weedy and in need of some TLC.

“Not the best stay that this cottage … firstly it’s not family friendly as described the property is located on the corner of a busy road so when having to park the car across the road on a evening it’s not very safe !”

It’s also does have a damp smell to the cottage . I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and I get very cold on an evening, the Central heating is locked so you’re not able to put the heating on just to take the chill away ,you have no were to dry wet towels items of clothes ( only a small wooden aire me in the utility room which you only get a few pairs of underwear items shall we say) On booking our weeks stay it’s stays that starter for woodburning stove, included in the price. however this is not the case … I even had a mouldy honey spoon in the cutlery drawer. I sent a message to the owner and the gentlemen, that looks after the property… that he will speak to the owner about the heating this was never resolved ! I have all correspondent text messages that shows they never replied I have spoken to Sykes to try and resolve this matter , This is their reply Dear Mrs Midgley, Thank you for contacting us regarding your booking at Pound Cottage. The owner has advised they do not wish to offer compensation as you did not give them any chance to rectify the issues. If you wish to pursue compensation then this will have to be done via third party means such as the small claims court. We will now close the case. I did sent txt message to Anthony/ Jacqueline and I think over 3 days it’s Long enough to rectify any issues and yet they didn’t !!

“Lovely cottage with all you could need for a week’s holiday.”

Beautiful walk along the river into Lyme. Great location for getting out and about and parking was always available along the road. We all enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub.

“Lovely property and location.”

We had issue with light fitting falling down which was rectified very quickly by the owner which was very efficient. The toilet seat fixing was broken and quite dangerous to use in the main bathroom and the bath plug didn’t hold water. Also stair gate couldn’t be fitted anywhere to secure the stairs. All this being said the property is lovely and cosy and the hot tub is so relaxing and private. We did have a fantastic stay and these are only minor niggles but wanted to mention them as owner may not be aware.

The location was great and the walk from the cottage into Lyme Regis was really nice. The biggest downside for us was the significant lack of parking I can't see that this was advised of in the property listing. I've looked through everything. From an accessibility point of view as I'm profoundly deaf in my left ear and I don't have much hearing left in my right, this was a massive issue to the point that I feel we should make a complaint please. The road outside next to the cottage is extremely dangerous and we had no choice but to park over the road on the hill. People need to made aware of this! It's standard stuff. It's not a cheap holiday and this is something you should either have as standard or at least be made aware of before you go. It's really disappointing. We have no issue with the quality of the cottage etc, or the booking etc through Sykes is just the parking and I in particular don't want another family to go through the stress like we did due to accessibility issues. Thank you for your comments on pound cottage. I am sorry about the parking, many cottages in the Lyme Regis area do not have provision for a parking space. The cottage is situated next to the local park, you could walk through and access your car. There are unrestricted parking spaces located on the same side of the road as the cottage on Lyme road. “The cottage is beautiful and in a gorgeous location.”

The attention to detail in the cottage is amazing, it is very well presented and has a lovely feel about it. The hot tub is a big bonus if you get the weather for it. It is a bit overlooked but I can see that in time the shrubbery should provide some screening, however a parasol would help in the meantime, and to also cast some shade on very sunny days - the heat of the hot tub and the sun is intense. There were four slight issues - in the single bedroom my son locked the door with the key from the inside but then could not get it unlocked, it had jammed. By throwing the key out of the window and then using a bit of force, it eventually unlocked but I would suggest removing the keys altogether, they look pretty but I would say that they are not really needed. The second is the bed in the main bedroom, it’s rather creaky. The third being that my daughter found a used sock in one of the her bedroom drawers (which we left there I’m afraid..she didn’t want to touch it and then I forgot to remove later on). Lastly, it was having no access to the heating. I appreciate we stayed during July but a couple of the evenings went very cold and it was then that we found the heating system was locked. We would have maybe lit the wood burner but no wood was provided. We understood that usually neither of the these would normally be needed in the summertime, however having one as an option would have been good. I do not want any of these points to detract from the cottage itself, or indeed our stay. We loved staying there and would definitely recommend to anyone else visiting the area.

It had everything we needed. It was very clean and comfortable. The hot tub was lovely. Parking is not directly on the Road opposite the cottage. Parking is down the Road and you have to walk on a busy Road with no pavement. The walk to Lyme Regis is about 25 minutes and is a lovely walk.

“We had a really great stay at Pound Cottage and would definitely return.”

We had some difficultly finding the property initially, perhaps updating the direction to say on the corner of Lyme Rd and Croggs lane may be useful for other visitors. Our only minor criticism of the cottage was the very low hanging light-fittings upstairs that we bumped our heads on and we are only average height! Overall we had a lovely stay, thank you!
