Dog Friendly Beaches in Dorset
When you are thinking of destinations for a dog-friendly holiday then Dorset may just be just what you are...
There’s nothing quite like having your dog with you when you’re out on an adventure. Their free spirit and boundless enthusiasm is contagious, and makes any holiday that much better.
At Lyme Bay Holidays, we’re proud to offer a wide range of dog-friendly cottages for our guests. We’re also proud to say that dogs are welcome in a huge number of local establishments too, so you can be comfortable knowing that your dog can enjoy everything that the area has to offer too.
One of the most common things we’re asked by our guests though is which beaches in Dorset are dog-friendly? It’s a great question, and one with a very reassuring answer for dog owners, with a huge range of dog-friendly beaches available. Indeed, there’s only two beaches don’t allow dogs – Seatown and Shipstal Beach.
Amongst the list of dog-friendly beaches are the stunning pair of Ringshead Bay and Fisherman’s Walk, with the former being a stunning, secluded shingle beach with crystal-clear waters and the latter being a favourite with Bournemouth locals, thanks to its golden sands and create amenities.
There are other great beaches on the dog-friendly list too, like Studland Beach with its fantastic golden sands and National Trust status. Here’s the full list, with beaches in bold within half an hour of Lyme Regis by car:
Dorset beaches which allow dogs:
That’s 23 beaches along the stunning Dorset coast which allow you to bring your dog along for the trip.
Dorset beaches with restricted access for dogs:
‘Restricted’ access for dogs will mean different things for different beaches. Typically, it’ll mean that dogs can be walked through the beach but must remain on a leash, or that there’s a specific area of the beach where dogs are allowed. However, many ‘restricted’ beaches only allow dogs on the beach at certain times of the year (typically April to September), or at fixed points during the day, so as not to disturb local wildlife.
Do remember to always clean up after your dog on any trip to the beach. Dorset enjoys some of the most stunning natural beauty of anywhere in the UK, and we want that to be shared with as many people as possible.
But most of all, enjoy your amazing Dorset holiday with your best friend by your side!
