“We loved our stay in Fig Tree House and would definitely book again.”

There were only four of us, but we needed three bedrooms, and it offered us so much space. The three bathrooms were particularly useful. The main room is very light and bright and when cooking you can still chat with the rest of your party in this lovely, open plan room. We had fabulous weather and so made full use of the balcony. We had two cars but to simplify things with the limited parking, I paid £30 to park in the tesco car park for a week, literally a few steps from the front door. It ...

The main room is very light and bright and when cooking you can still chat with the rest of your party in this lovely, open plan room. We had fabulous weather and so made full use of the balcony. We had two cars but to simplify things with the limited parking, I paid £30 to park in the tesco car park for a week, literally a few steps from the front door. It was so close we didn't even bring the car round to load it! The only thing missing was the microwave, which we only noticed when my daughter went to make hot chocolate - it was not a problem for us but may be for others. Also, the plug for the washbasin in the main bedroom needs attention as it wouldn't stay up to empty the sink. This was a very minor irritation. On the subject of bathrooms, we loved the shower in the main bedroom - I want one at home!

“This property was left lacking.”

As soon as we arrived first impressions weren't great,the porch hadn't been swept for goodness knows how long,leaves,rubbish and full of cobwebs.The back garden not inviting at all,full of dead leaves and plants dotted around the wall basically all dead and a few blades of grass the rest all weeds,just scruffy and unkempt. Bins in back garden strewn everywhere when I believe they should have been in the garage,for which we could not get into. The bi fold doors took a lot of effort to open and close,and really they should have some kind of window covering as we had to keep moving the furniture to stay out of the sun. Infact maintainance came out on the last day we were there and even he said first impressions count and he wasn't impressed. The juliette balcony we could not open,surely this is a fire hazard. The showers need anti slip mats and shelves to put your products on. Definitely need a window cleaner and a gardener and the balcony could do with a good clean and to be treated. This property could be so nice if they thinned out all of the knickknacks and books and just implemented some fundamental things,such as pictures,mirrors oh and fans (definitely). Everything needs to be freshened up. In my opinion the beds were the only thing the actually got right. Oh on arrival no welcome pack from owners,just Lyme bay lettings,and what an insult,3 dishwasher tablets a small tube of washing up liquid,a scourer,cloth and bin bag,it's almost telling you to leave the property clean,in fact we probably left it cleaner than when we arrived. I do feel the owners need to go to the property themselves to see what can be done. It really was not worth £1009.

“Fig Tree House was a great base for exploring the local area.”

The house is spacious, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, and the enclosed garden was perfect for our dog to relax in the sun. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and would happily choose to stay here again if we were visiting the area. A couple of things future guests may find helpful to know. The railway line and a stream run along the bottom of the garden. Trains start early, around 5:30am, and continue until late into the night, with one train per hour in each direction. It wasn’t a problem for us, but light sleepers may want to bring earplugs or use white noise. This seems to be or have been a lived-in home rather than a typical holiday let, which gives it character but means it doesn’t have quite the same setup as some holiday properties - plenty of kitchen equipment (did not use oven or microwave oven). A cleaning pack was provided, but there were no complimentary tea, coffee, milk or sugar or supplies on arrival (I left some sugar for future guests!). However, there is a Tesco less than a five-minute walk away, making it easy to pick up essentials. Parking outside the property is a little tight, so confident reversing and manoeuvring are needed. Axminster itself is a lovely town with a good selection of pubs and takeaways. I’d particularly recommend Belluno, the Railway Kitchen at the station for breakfast (it’s easiest to walk as station parking is charged all day rate) and the Community Waffle House. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area and it was a great base to do so!

“Nice house overall clean , beds comfortable , plenty of room and anything you need .”

Our only problem was you can’t watch live TV as it’s Al run on the internet so it’s Apts only which buffer a lot so very difficult to watch a full programme which was annoying. Parking very tight especially if you have a large car , and the showers on the top floor took ages to get warm .

“Excellent location and only two minute walk to Tesco where we parked two cars.”

The house was well equipped including a wine cooler! Our only criticisms are lack of placemats/coasters to protect the lovely dining table and although there was a welcome pack for cleaning (washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets etc), there was no tea/coffee/milk etc which we have grown used to having at other cottages.

“Spacious, modern holiday home with comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, lovely balcony to enjoy the afternoon sunshine, nice garden with table and chairs for al fresco eating.”

Trains are going by end of garden but mostly hidden by trees and aren’t too often so didn’t cause us any issue with noise. House is in a tucked away location with Tesco just 2 min walk away and easy walk up to town centre. WiFi worked well.
