    “A hidden gem!”

    I almost didn't want to write this review because I wanted to keep this place for ourselves, but it's actually too good not to write a review! Everything was absolutely perfect about the stay here. The house is well equipped, is comfortable, is cool downstairs (sleeping area is downstairs, (you will see why when you get here)) when it's very very hot. We stayed in that super hot week in May and the sleeping area was lovely and cool and the beds were comfy. Welcome basket was a lovely touch ...

Everything was absolutely perfect about the stay here. The house is well equipped, is comfortable, is cool downstairs (sleeping area is downstairs, (you will see why when you get here)) when it's very very hot. We stayed in that super hot week in May and the sleeping area was lovely and cool and the beds were comfy. Welcome basket was a lovely touch and the grounds with river you can walk along are sublime. The location is incredibly peaceful, no traffic AT ALL as you are in the middle of nowhere - but only a 10 min drive from Axminster. Thanks for a lovely stay from all of us :)

The Cottage Middle Westwater is a charming detached retreat offering the perfect blend of comfort, privacy and rural beauty, tucked away in the peaceful countryside just outside Axminster. Approached via a long driveway and surrounded by rolling fields, farmland and the gentle sounds of the River Yarty, the cottage provides a tranquil escape from the bustle of everyday life. The cottage has been cleverly designed in an upside down layout, allowing guests to step straight out from the first-floor living space onto an elevated patio with sweeping countryside views. It’s the perfect spot for morning coffee, leisurely lunches or evening drinks as the sun sets over the valley. A large lawn stretches out below, ideal for children to play or for simply relaxing in the fresh Devon air. Inside, the first floor is bright and welcoming, with an open-plan living area that includes a stylish and fitted kitchen, a dining space and a cosy lounge with soft sofas and a log burner for cooler evenings. The windows frame the surrounding landscape beautifully, making it easy to feel connected to nature even while indoors. A cloakroom is also located on this level for added convenience. Downstairs, the cottage offers two comfortable bedrooms. One is a double, while the other features twin beds that can be converted into a king-size on request, making it ideal for couples, friends or small families. The bathroom is modern and well-equipped with a shower, wash basin, WC and heated towel rail. A utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and sink adds to the practicality of the space, especially for longer stays. For food lovers, the area offers a wonderful selection of local pubs and restaurants. The Tuckers Arms in the nearby village of Dalwood is a particular favourite, known for its warm atmosphere and excellent menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. For those who prefer to cook, Millers Farm Shop in neighbouring Kilmington is a must-visit. This well-stocked shop is a treasure trove of fresh produce, artisan goods and regional delicacies. Visitors often find themselves leaving with far more than they planned, tempted by the colourful displays of fruit and vegetables, homemade treats and a wide selection of wines and cheeses. Middle Westwater is just five minutes from the centre of Axminster and within easy reach of the stunning Jurassic Coast. Lyme Regis, with its historic charm, fossil-rich beaches and vibrant seafront, is a popular destination for a day out. The popular fishing village of Beer with its limestone cliffs and pretty beach is another great day out where it is easy to lose a few hours sitting in a deckchair watching the local fishermen hauling their catches ashore.
