“We arrived at the top of a hill with a view overlooking the buildings and sea.”

This promised to be a wonderful stay in a delightful location. However, having identified the cottage we were to be staying in, we were met with a building with rendering that was dirty and uninviting, nothing like the images shown on Sykes’ website. The decking slippery with no attempt to clean leafs away; which I appreciate is difficult when the property is located under a tree. Inside we were greeted by a delightful and much appreciated ‘Welcome’ bag containing all sorts of tasty local treats including biscuits, fudge, apple juice, crackers, tea and coffee, milk. Looking around inside we found the large comfy sofas, kitchen area and large conservatory. However, we couldn’t help but be disappointed when we looked closer. The paintwork was again grubby, the roof of the conservatory green, only half of the ceiling lights worked in the living area making it difficult to see what you were doing and eating. The cooker hood’s light didn’t work, there were insufficient cooking utensils and pans should you be catering for 5 guests and the toilet seat in the en-suite was loose. Unfortunately there was a general lack of love and care left in the building.
The town Lyme is, without doubt, quite beautiful and we will be visiting again. Sadly not at number 9 Farnham House. ☹️
