The property

Cider House is one of two sympathetically converted former cider barns, set in a wonderfully peaceful rural location near the village of Hawkchurch, close to the Devon/Dorset border and within easy driving distance of the world‑famous Jurassic Coast. Occupying a position above a quiet valley and surrounded by rolling countryside, it provides a relaxed and scenic base for families, friends and couples seeking a balance of countryside and coast. Dating back to the 15th century, this Grade II listed stone barn has been carefully restored to retain its original character while offering comfortable and practical holiday accommodation. Exposed stonework and period features add to the sense of charm throughout, complemented by modern furnishings that create a warm and welcoming space. The living room is an inviting place to relax after a day of exploring, with an electric woodburner providing extra comfort on cooler evenings. The kitchen and dining area is well arranged for shared meals and socialising and is fully equipped for an easy, self‑catered stay. Cider House sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms. On the ground floor, a twin bedroom benefits from its own en‑suite shower room, offering flexible accommodation for couples, families or multi‑generational stays. On the first floor, there is a double bedroom along with a further twin bedroom, both served by a family bathroom. A travel cot and highchair are available for guests travelling with young children. Outside, guests can enjoy a private seating area with garden furniture and a BBQ, perfect for dining al fresco while taking in the surrounding countryside. Children will enjoy the shared adventure playground, and guests are welcome to explore the owners’ 27 acres of grounds, which are rich in wildlife including deer, foxes, owls and buzzards. Sheep and lambs graze in nearby fields, adding to the tranquil rural atmosphere. Bike storage is available, along with private parking and an electric vehicle charging point. Although peacefully rural, Cider House is well placed for exploring the local area. The popular seaside town of Lyme Regis is close by, offering a family‑friendly sandy beach, the historic Cobb Harbour and a wide selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants. Nearby Charmouth is famous for its fossil‑rich beach and opportunities for guided fossil hunting, while other coastal favourites including Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth are also within easy reach. Attractions such as Beer Quarry Caves, the Seaton Tramway and the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth provide plenty to explore nearby. Walkers will appreciate the numerous surrounding footpaths, while horse riding is available locally at a neighbouring property (charges apply). Hawkchurch itself has a traditional village pub and village shop just one mile away. For larger parties, Cider House can be booked together with the neighbouring Cider Cottage to accommodate up to 12 guests, making it ideal for extended family holidays or groups of friends wishing to holiday close together while retaining their own space. A peaceful countryside retreat with character and space, Cider House offers easy access to the Jurassic Coast and the beautiful landscapes of Dorset, Devon and Somerset.
