“With this house you are paying for the location and view, which are absolutely amazing, but the house feels tired and a little uncared for.”

Cleaning isn’t brilliant, basics are fine but the doors and skirtings are dusty and the window frame in the bathroom was really dirty. It makes the house feel uncared for. The drain for the shower was completely clogged and it wasn’t possible to run the shower for more than a couple of minutes without flooding the bathroom floor, we bought drain declogger and fixed it overnight but just a shame no one had resolved it, it would have obviously been a problem even from cleaning it. There’s a piece of carpet in the sitting room, clearly there to protect the doorway which is fine, but its bent and moves every time you step on it which means you just keep having to put it back. It’s not the end of the world, but just feels like someone should have noticed and bothered to put something better there. It’s an old house and it’s going to have its drafts and quirks, but the window in the upstairs bedroom needs some proper attention. It’s all repairable but just feels like no one cares and is just happy to take the money people will pay. The decorating feels tired, things just look like they need freshening up and a bit of care rather than just painting over. The kitchen is basic but fine, the rubber stoppers on the chairs are a pain, falling off whenever you move a chair and giving an old peoples home vibe. The table isn’t brilliant for the space. It’s equipped to a fairly basic level but with things I can’t imagine getting used often, like a slow cooker, and missing things that would be really useful like pasta bowls or more cutlery. The beds are reasonably comfy but being made really badly and we had to remake the two upstairs because the sheets were positioned so they didn’t tuck under the mattress at the end and so came loose after a night of the kids sleeping in them. Again, it’s obviously not enough to ruin a holiday but just feels a little slapdash, we holiday in a lot of cottages and it’s not something I’ve ever had a problem with. We have been to this house several times over the years, and would come again for the location, but I wish just a little more thought and care could be invested in it.
