“Hi there. The cottage was in a great location and we were able to discover new parts of Lyme.”
However, upon arrival it was icy cold and we discovered there was no central heating, just very old overnight storage heaters. There were no instructions on how to use them, just an old penny in each heater through which you had to guess how to work it. However, upon arrival it was icy cold and we discovered there was no central heating, just very old overnight storage heaters. There were no instructions on how to use them, just an old penny in each heater through which you had to guess how to work it. The owner hadn't gone into the property to put the storage heaters on the night before so we had no heating whatsoever on our first night. In addition, the duvets on the bed were very light, providing little warmth. This, combined with the worn and uncomfortable mattresses, made our first night really miserable. The next day, we tried to get the issue resolved by calling Lyme Bay Holidays from 10 am onwards on four occasions. At one point my husband was put on hold for 10 minutes. At 5pm, we managed to get through and later on, two heaters were dropped off at the cottage. That evening, we discovered the 70s style faux coal heater in the sitting room could blow out warm air, which helped for the one room. We didn't attempt to cook as the kitchen with the terracotta stone tiles was freezing and the two heaters were needed in the bedrooms. All in all, a sadly disappointing holiday. The cottage is in a great location but is tired and shabby and in desperate need of a refurb, heating, and some friendly instructions other than rules!
