Things To Do
Pinewood Retreat is located just three miles from Lyme Regis making it a perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of the Jurassic Coast, a world Heritage Site. Being on the Devon/Dorset border means that the best of both counties are within easy reach. To the east, in Devon, is the delightful fishing village of Beer and the seaside towns of Seaton and Sidmouth, perfect for enjoying water sports. To the west is Dorset, almost wholly designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Where Dorset meets Devon and the rolling countryside tumbles down to the sea, nestles the fascinating little town of Lyme Regis. Famed for its Jurassic fossils and more recently the setting of the films Ammonite and The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Lyme Regis focuses around its ancient Cobb Harbour. It remains today much as it has always been – whatever you’re looking for in a holiday, you’ll find it here. From sea-fishing and pleasure boat trips, watersports or the tranquillity of Langmoor Gardens – a picture at any time of the year. Old and interesting shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs are here in abundance – perfect for browsers! For sun lovers, the south facing beaches are ideal for families – safe bathing, golden sand and rock pools will keep the young and young at heart happy for hours.
We are situated perfectly to enjoy many of the attractions within Devon, Dorset & Somerset, and many you don’t need to travel that far! Within a half hour’s drive of Pinewood Retreat, there are the stunning gardens of Pecorama in Beer, with train rides for the young & old alike. Take a journey on the Seaton Tramway along the River Axe estuary. The journey takes you past the Seaton Wetlands, a haven for bird and wildlife, to the historic market town of Colyton.
The Seaton Jurassic visitors centre is another great choice and perfect for all weathers and a must for all budding fossil hunters or experiencing a journey back in time.
